Remember in The Maltese Falcon (1941), Humphrey Bogart refers to the younger sidekick as a 'gunsel'?

Everyone, including censors, assumed it was slang for a criminal with a gun, and so the word then BECAME slang for a criminal with a gun.

But actually 'gunsel' was Yiddish slang for 'prison bitch'.

My son just told me he doesn't want to watch a film he doesn't know the plot to because he won't know what is going on. He reads voraciously but he is just incapable of understanding video content. That's really, really funny
