I think they’ve got to do something around this crowding of the keeper. Nobody allowed inside the 6 yard box seems extreme but I’m not sure what else they can do.

Maybe I’m soft but in my opinion: Jota (still massively under appreciated by many), being in transition/squad imbalance, injuries and a lot of bad luck are valid excuses for having a bad season. Missing CL for a year would be shite but not terminal.

Fair enough, I understand the sentiment. I of course want us to be in the CL too. I just believe those running the club know a bit more than us and are making decisions that benefit us better in the long term.

Fair point. The optimist in me thinks even without CL this squad can achieve it next year if we avoid the bad luck again. And even then, without CL I think we can make signings that enable us to challenge.

Without wanting to be contrarian we would have likely also said this in the nightmare center back season but in the end we probably have to concede the strategy paid off long term. The board don’t live in the short term like we do, they’re happy to judge everything on a rolling 5 year period IMO.

I’m hoping it’s them saying “We know this year isn’t good enough. Give us the summer to put it right”. Slot has had bad moments this year but ultimately I think the team’s form can legitimately be put down to so many more factors than him. Get him the right players this summer and he’ll win.

Completely get that. I just think in an age where we’re competing with who we compete with you need to do things a certain way. We’ve had seasons like this before which have ultimately been justified by last year’s title win. We’re building an excellent squad. Happy to give it another summer myself.

It is but I think it’s fairly simple to make a few signings that transform the whole landscape. Man U have shown missing out on CL isn’t the be all and end all. They only need a few pacey wide forwards and CL qualification next season at the minimum is in the bag in my opinion.

Not AFQ related but will you be doing any reaction to the Round Table? Personally think it’s exactly what the club needed to do and reinforced my faith in the long term. Just need to take this season on the chin but I’ve got no doubts they’ll do what’s needed in the summer.

Sounds like a cop out somebody looking to manufacture a move would say to me. Of course it’s in his hands. If he tells his agents he wants to stay they’ll make that happen.

He had the squad to win the league last year and did it. I’m just not convinced any other manager comes in and does any better. I’d also be surprised if anyone actually wanted the Liverpool manager’s job when they get hung out to dry like this. The need for signings is obvious but they’re static.

Impossible to tell how badly Slot is doing when that’s the squad he has to work with. The lack of action in this window is mind boggling and simply suggests the people running the club are not supporters like us. If it goes wrong it’s a tut and a shrug of the shoulders for them.

I keep changing my mind but I think I’m still of the belief that better/more players would make a bigger difference than a new manager.

It’s something people really need to bear in mind when they’re pointing the finger at a title winning manager. Maybe his use of Gakpo is frustrating but he has so little else to work with and it’ll be the same for any one else. We’re in transition. It’s just frustrating we have to live it.

I’m at a stage where I can reason with both sides of the argument and so don’t know what I actually think. I don’t think any manager gets much more out of this squad without signings so part of me would rather we gave those signings to the league winning manager. But it is all very dour. Who knows.
