Marketing is Sales.

Sales is Marketing.

They aren't dating. They are married with an expensive prenup.

When one isn't working, the other one isn't working. << This is expensive. When both are working, the team is like a fine wine; only better with age. << This is the never-ending honeymoon.
Happy Festivus!

it's time we celebrate a Marketing Edition of this ninny-Costanza holiday. (Vote in the story which is top of your list, or comment below. What marketing term, tactic, or strategy needs to go away in 2026?)

I loved reading Fellow Travelers. It's painful and raw, set in 1950s America where gay relationships were under attack by McCarthy (ring a bell?).

It's vibrant & makes you feel like you are the one sneaking around looking over your shoulder.

I’ve made no secret that I strongly dislike NPS scores. Why? There is no evidence it drives business.

You know what does? Empathy.

3-in-5 consumers say they only engage with companies that demonstrate genuine care.

What do you care about?

Does Empathy have value?
According to a recent survey, 3/5 consumers say they only engage with companies that demonstrate genuine care. This supports the reports from earlier 2025 that DEI-enabled companies are performing better than those who cancel.

Consumers will pay more for empathy
Many consumers feel companies are failing at empathy, and the growing use of AI in customer service likely isn’t helping, a Zurich survey found.

But your funnel drives the revenue.

Too many prioritize first and forget about the second.

Marketing is not an exercise in creativity and trying new things.

Marketing should be rooted in core strategy and alignment. It should be clearly defined. It should not deviate. It should remain ultra focused. And it should say “no” to nearly every “great idea” that arrives.

Is Chime losing ground?

Easy, wins.

Carvana? Same thing.
You don’t always need to have the best product.

But you must have the best solution.

Here’s an example:

Starbucks doesn’t make the best coffee.

But if you want a fast and easy cup, there’s no one better.

I feel this LinkedIn post in my #Marketing bones. We do everything. GTM, Product Development, Crisis, Content, MQLs, leads, support sales, dashboards, design, etc. Over time, we have moved to a place where we don't do much at a high level.

What’s frustrating about #ai, is people who pull out their phones, regurgitate an answer, and think they are a genius. No, you can type. You don’t know what you just read to me.

I still think this is a winner...
Want a game changer for Costco?

Have a booth selling the hot dogs and soda (nothing else) at the gas line.

I would buy one every time.

In our digital-first world, print is often an afterthought.

📨 Don't ignore the opportunity that print marketing presents.

Attention is a game, and the goal is to find it.

Recent data suggests print is alive and well: richarddedor.substack.com/p/print-mark...

Print Marketing Isn't Dead. Your Strategy Is.
Why does direct mail still work? Because you have to touch it. You see it. And then you have to decide to toss it out.
