Years ago I wrote Loft Island. It's fiction, set in 1953 and looks sensitively at a boy and girl, 2 years apart, growing up. The characters came out so attractive that I followed it up with The Island and the Town so as to showcase them again, with others they met.

Trump says in an interview that Ukraine should have rolled over and allowed Russia to invade or take over in Ukraine and so avoid war. I wonder what he would do if Russia decided to wander into Alaska in the same way.

I can never understand why children's books get left out of "great book" lists. The books we call "children's books" are really books written for an audience that includes children, but excludes no-one. They are books for EVERYONE - and if you exclude them, you miss the most important books of all!
