Games industry programmer
Why the heck would I want to do that? I can't talk to 4 random programmers without three of them disagreeing and arguing with me - why would I talk to a whole room full?

Are you kidding me... this might be the cheat code to get gamers to spend all their money. You know someone will buy all the colours...

There are a couple of things I don't like about 3d printing (e.g. the fumes). But the worst of all has to be that the build plate is earthed so I seem to get an electric shock every time I touch it. Like an abused animal in a science experiment, I really don't want to touch it any more.

Really great decision from the Cmake people to call their config file CMakeLists.txt. Saves having to specify the config filename to the tool when you run it.

Except... when have a non-trivial project and you have five different CMakeLists.txt files open in your IDE and no idea which tab is which.

While I'm saying controversial things... Something that bugs me is humourous progress bar/status messages in software. You're never going to beat "Reticulating Splines..." so stop trying.

This is quite the yak shave. I often think people waste a lot of time speeding up their game's iteration time (how many times would you need to save that 45 seconds in order to pay back the days/weeks of optimization effort?). But you could wind up being hired by Anthropic :) bun.com/blog/bun-joi...

Turns out gitbash can create a file called "nul" on Windows, that can't be deleted (not in Powershell anyway). Launched WSL bash and deleted it from there. Some would say launching an entire VM to delete one file is overkill but this is the modern world lol

That’s a bummer. Guess I’ll just drown in my car if it ever ends up in water.

Asking Claude Opus 4.5 to review your code is a pretty humbling experience.

The report is so comprehensive I'm like "stop kicking the codebase, it's already dead" by the end.

In powershell you have to hit → to accept a completion instead of tab and I don't think I'm ever going to get used to that.

Achievement Unlocked: 3d printed something actually useful.

Here's my money saving expert tip: Always cancel your subscription services before they renew. They will usually offer you a discount to keep the service going. And the worst case is they don't and you just reenable renewal for the same price if you do still want it.

I'm glad Ofcom allowed all those mobile network mergers. My 2 year contract with Vodafone comes to an end this month and... everything is twice as expensive now. Like holy shit expensive.

I bet all of these 7000+ comments are well thought out and completely reasonable and nuanced.

Seriously why does the BBC have comments on some stories? Why invite Daily Mail readers into your home?

How the heck is the Xbox 360 20 years old?

And why haven't Microsoft released any other consoles since?

You’ve got to wonder about the mentality of people who come into an empty lecture theatre and sit right on the end of a row so that everyone else needs to get past them to use the rest of the seats.

Got a new PC at work because of Windows 11. Still think it's really idiotic that they removed the ability to reposition the task bar on the side - something you could do since it existed. I have all this monitor width, but no, the task bar has to take up some of the much more precious height.
