In these dystopian times I find I am drawn to consume more stories, whether in book, film, tv or other formats. Escape reality. Posting what I’ve read or watched this year.

2025 Counts
📚 Books: 39
🎬 Films: 42
📺 TV Series: 36
Film 42 of 2025: La Huella del Mal. An ok thriller, based in Atapuerca archaeological site, with the theme of evil in human nature. A girl is found killed in the same way as an unsolved case. A twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. We watched in Spanish. #filmsky #moviesky #peliculasky 🎬

Film 41 of 2025: Wake Up Dead Man. Takes a while to get going with a good hour of setup. Once it does it is an intriguing mystery with many nods to books. Some good acting from Josh O’Conner, Josh Brolin and Glenn Close. Better than Glass Onion, not as good as Knives Out #filmsky #moviesky 🎬
December 27, 2025 at 10:54 PM
TV Series 36 of 2025: The Crystal Cuckoo/El Cuco de Cristal. Not a bad “newcomer to a small town” mystery. Told over different timelines, a young woman visits the town where her heart donor lived and died and discovers that people have been going missing. We watched in Spanish #tvsky 📺

Films 39 and 40 of 2025: Dune parts 1 & 2. A visually impressive (and sonically oppressive) adaptation of Dune. Good performances from Zendaya in the expanded role of Chani, and Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica. Chalamet also gets close to the books unlikeable hero/messiah #filmsky #moviesky 🎬
December 20, 2025 at 8:41 AM
TV Series 35 of 2025: A Man on the Inside series 2. Ted Danson’s retired professor continues his career as a private investigator, this time he is sent to a college. It’s nice they managed to keep some of the characters from the first series. Crazy but touching as well #tvsky 📺

Film 38 of 2025: 1917. Sam Mendes’ story of a pair of soldiers asked to cross no man’s land to deliver a message to save lives. Shot to appear like one take, it is very impressive cinematography. Some incredible scenes and an emotional ending. #filmsky #moviesky 🎬

TV series 34 of 2025: Caught/Atrapados. An Argentinian adaptation of a Harlen Coben book. Quite a good story about a journalist trying to catch a child abuser. Set in beautiful Patagonia. We watched in Spanish. Un buen adaptación y emocionante. #tvsky #español 📺

Book 38 of 2025: The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl. I had never read this one. It has all the typical Dahl traits, nasty people (in this case hunters) who get taught a lesson (via a bit of role reversal). Quite short but grisly fun. #booksky 📚
December 9, 2025 at 11:03 AM
Film 37 of 2025: Companion. This is a great twist on the popular genre of girlfriend robot goes mad (see Subservience). In this you are rooting for the robot. Good performances by Jack Quaid and especially Sophie Thatcher. Some good twists too. #filmsky #moviesky 📚
December 4, 2025 at 7:41 PM
Film 36 of 2025: Maggie Moore(s). A quirky comedy/crime caper with 2 victims with the same name. You know from early on whodunnit but the fun is in following the investigations by John Hamm and Nick Mohammed’s cops. I enjoyed it, but some may not #filmsky #moviesky 🎬
December 4, 2025 at 7:27 PM
Book 37 of 2025: The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy. A fairly well known classic for kids, I am sure I must have read this when younger but didn’t remember anything of it. A girl at a school for witches gets in trouble but saves the day in the end. Ok but not sure if we will seek out sequels #booksky 📚

Film 35 of 2025: Mickey 17. Starts off with a promising premise. A guy who signs up to become an “expendable”, someone who can be reprinted after they’ve died, so they get used for horrible things. Descends a bit in to a bit of a farce but I did enjoy it. #filmsky #moviesky 🎬

Book 36 of 2025: Charlie Changes in to a Chicken by Sam Copeland. The adventures of a boy who starts changing in to various animals and his friends help him to figure out why. Lots of fun and some good jokes for the 7 year old. Also quite touching. #booksky #library 📚

Book 35 of 2025: Leonora Bolt, Secret Inventor. A nice story of a creative girl kept by her evil uncle on an island. The 7 year old enjoyed the story and especially the jokes. A good read, we will probably look for book 2 at the #library. #booksky 📚
November 26, 2025 at 12:49 PM
Tv Series 33 of 2025: Only Murders in the Building. The gang battle 3 millionaires, a mobsters family and the threat of the Arconia being sold. The usual whacky whodunnit. Entertaining. #tvsky 📺
November 26, 2025 at 12:43 PM
TV Series 32 of 2025. The Capture series 2. This is a good continuation of the story, and feels like they have wrapped it all up (despite series 3 being on the way). Good performance from Holliday Grainger. All the deepfake stuff is really not far away #tvsky 📺
November 26, 2025 at 7:53 AM
Book 34 of 2025: Charlottes Web by E B White. I didn’t remember quite how sad this story was. Also starts with a farmer about to kill a baby pig which could be scary for kids. Ultimately a touching story of an unlikely friendship #booksky 📚 #library

TV Series 31 of 2025: The Witcher series 3. Some good action but got a bit confusing at some points. Enjoyed it, a little apprehensive about series 4 as haven’t heard good things. #tvsky 📺
November 13, 2025 at 9:22 PM
Book 33 of 2025: Uma and the Answer to Absolutely Everything by Sam Copeland. This is quite a charming story of a girl and her friend trying to save their town and help her dad overcome his depression at the loss of his wife. It involves drunk llamas, an AI ear piece and treasure. #booksky 📚
November 13, 2025 at 9:17 PM
TV Series 30 of 2025: Alien Earth. Enjoyed this a lot, good characters (especially Morrow), the classic Alien suspense vibe plus some new elements, not to mention the new Aliens. A little disappointing that it seemed to finish mid story, but then I guess a second series is a given #tvsky 📺
October 10, 2025 at 10:36 PM
Book 32 of 2025: Greta and the Ghost Hunters by Sam Copeland. Picked this up in the library as we liked the Tuchus & Topps books. Enjoyed this, it covers some big themes such as aging, fear, death, massive farts and poo and stick based games. Some very funny bits, but also touching. #booksky 📚
