The "Would we treat the manga as more canon than the games" question is one of the reasons why ZUN doesn't want to do a manga/anime adaptation of his games and would rather create a new story. ZUN prefers to keep things ambiguous.
While I do enjoy that we get original stories over retellings of games, I can’t lie, a part of me is curious what would have happened if each manga was a fleshed out version of the games. Would we treat the mangas as more canon than the games? Would new character ever appear?
