I think significant events like Watergate can cause a lot of distrust in the government. Oftentimes, when the inner workings of the government are shown to be deceitful or scandalous, people lose trust in the people leading them. #318 #uwj201

I think authority is a big factor, but that is not to be confused with credibility. Just because someone has a lot of power, that does not mean they are credible sources of truth. I think another factor is how they present the information, whether they have facts to back it up or not. #uwj201 #318

Creating fake engagement can cause the public to view things differently than what they are in reality. So, they might perceive one leader as having so much more support than they actually do because of this fake engagement. This can cause public perception to be incredibly warped. #uwj201 #318

I can remember there was so much fake news during COVID-19, some people saying that masks actually "activated" the virus. It became very dangerous as people were listening to fake news instead of experts and putting people in danger. #uwj201 #318

I think both are viewed as effective in different ways. Online participation can reach larger audiences, but offline participation is more personal and face-to-face, making it harder to ignore. Both can reach corrective actions, it just depends on the situation and context I think. #uwj201 #318

I remember during the BLM protests, a lot of coverage towards it was negative and focused on the violent aspect of them, despite 94% of protests being peaceful. I had attended some of the protests and remember feeling attacked due to the negative coverage surrounding these protests. #uwj201 #318

I would definitely agree that finding meaning in everyday life is important. It's not enough to only focus on the "big things" in life, we have to enjoy each day and the tiny good things that come with it. #uwj201 #318

I think we have forgotten how to enjoy the process of things and instead focus on the end result or making it known to the world that we have reached this phase of "fulfillment". I think attempting to do things for ourselves outside of external pressures helps with the "good life" #uwj201 #318

I think it almost depletes public knowledge and retention due to no one reading past dramatic headlines and choosing to think they know everything about a topic because of one post they saw. I think news sources now have to work much harder to reach the general public. #journ201 #318

I think it very much limits the amount of true, reliable, or productive information one receives on a topic. Getting all their information from social media might incite more fear than necessary in someone, as they intake a lot more dramatic news than the experts are saying persay. #journ201 #318

This is such a good point! Something that comes to mind is how we talked about the little overlap of partisan sources most people consume. Polarization is so prevalent in our information diets, and we must be missing so much important information because of this! #uwj201 #318

I think it's important for journalists to call forward marginalized voices and have their perspectives at the forefront when discussing articles or topics that surround them. White people and the issues surrounding them cannot be the standard. #uwj201 #318
