The Harry Potter books are just....extremely mean spirited at times, if not outright bigoted and showing her various prejudices and people she already disliked and hated, and every time she brings up rather egregious issues with the way society is structured, things she wrote in, the conclusion is..

The problem is that Harry Potter shows strains of bigotry already, and that neoliberal cop mentality, not to mention the various other -phobic material. I say strains, but 'Person sides with literal slaves to get them freedom is a plot point, and everyone else treats her like she's being a busybody'

The worst for me is when I do that, I then wake up at 1-3am, think 'Oh, I have work in (x) hours, that's not enough time' and then go back to sleep and wake up tired for some fucked up reason.

The first one has always sit ill with me, because while I in-general agree with free speech, I will absolutely not defend anyone's right to hate speech, at least on a societal level. Government restrictions no, but we've given bigots/misogynists/fascists too much freedom to be 'themselves' socially

Its a hard thing to deal with the sort of people you need to say 'I don't know how to tell you that you need to care about other people beyond your own personal interests', cuz they're both nominally helping us, but very easily swing to 'you didn't get your pony, shame on you' and pony is 'rights'

I meant friends and such, I know we're all struggling and I'm not a shoulder most people want, but I know you likely have someone who can lend you a caring ear.

I know the saying is 'Anyone who wants to be president shouldn't be allowed to be president' and that works for certain levels of power, but there's a lot to be said for a civil servant who wants to be a civil servant, and not just get elected for power.
