Meaning it must be done through the handle. That's how it has always been understood. As confirmed by this clarification.

I don't know what to tell you. That is how the rules are written and how World Curling defines them. I don't know what other source of authority we can find? If the word of the Curling Federation isn't the gold standard I don't know what is?

I literally highlighted the part saying you cannot touch the granite "at any time during the forward motion". Do not touch the granite while the stone is moving. Period.

At best you can argue that Canada abused the old language of "delivering the stone" and what that meant. Now it's very clear.
