Volunteers have been helping to clear the Foss in town and along its banks.

Tim had a haul last month and on Saturday there was a good morning’s litter picking with 10 volunteers. We nearly ran out of room on the boat due to the number of trolleys and bike.

It was reported that some trolleys and a bike were in the river further upstream than we can get too on the Council boat Foxy, so these were recovered on Sunday and reported for removal to recycling.

Some of the green bags were filled on route and left by the public bins to make carrying them easier. The rest of the rubbish the group collected was transferred onto Foxy and then onto to the Councils van for disposal.

On Friday another team of 5 were out kick sampling in the river Foss at Willow Bank, New Earswick, York.

Sampling involves agitating the river bed for 3 minutes and collecting the contents in a flat bottomed net.
Then clearing large stones for 1 minute.
