@underdarkGIS Basically - got confused over naming and was convinced he had the wrong layer in postgis. I kept pointing out "But you need the one on the server". He was convinced he didn't. This morning I had to reassure him it is right. Please leave it alone.

Spent 4 hours yesterday trying to convince a client to not delete an important data layer they needed. They only thing that stopped them was he wasn't familiar enough with PostGIS to do it. Two hours into it I almost decided to just let him go at it.....but I'd have to fix it.

FOSS4GNA is coming in November 2025

I realize as I type this I should have said something sooner. So I'll be in Reston November 3-5th 2025 talking, hanging out, and annoying people at FOSS4GNA 2025. If you're at the conference track me down. If you're in the area and you're interested in QGIS […]

The great Dr Jane Goodall, ethologist and campaigner for great apes and much else, has died at the age of 91.

She loved this _Far Side_ cartoon, and wrote a forward for a later Gary Larson collection.

And on Friday I'm off the Georgia Geospatial Board. That's step 1 to simplifying my life.

Had to go get my blood thinner checked - some dude was out in the parking lot have a complete meltdown and running up and down the aisles of the parking lot. Screaming at someone who drove off and left him. People are exhausting.

Person: "Gimme a shout and we'll get together"
"Phone call" - goes to voicemail.
"Texts" - Unanswered
"Send message through some other random platform" - Silence
Person: "Hey I never hear from you!"

Has anyone looked at this new dataset "GlobalBuildingAtlas" that reportedly has 2.75 billion building outlines?

I've committed to three more talks this year. I'm scaling back after that.

After speaking twice at the Georgia Geospatial Conference last week - burnout. I really wonder if all this traveling to conferences and talking and whatnot is worth the headache anymore. Of course it is advertising...but it's getting to be more exhausting each year.

Finally got the latest Geohipster Interview done. Man that took about a month longer than I wanted. Publishing happens tomorrow.

@sarae I've really enjoyed fedora with the gnome desktop. I've used mint and Ubuntu also. Good luck!

It warms my newly rebuilt heart to see the QGIS-US group gaining some traction. Slowly. Anyway - VPAT info is up on the website: https://www.qgis-us.org/2025/09/12/vpat/ #vpat #paperwork #qgis

Two painful conversations with clients yesterday. One is probably 3 months behind on paying me. Which has happened before but this time is different. Quote of the day "People seem to be not paying their bills" to which I said "Yeah it's almost like the economy isn't doing well for some odd reason".

QGIS-US User Group

Sometimes things happen at a slow burn. One thing I've been trying to do in what spare tim eI have is resurrect the QGIS-US group. It's starting. I've reached the point now where emails/virtual hangouts are about to start happening. So I made a google form and in general I'm […]

Wednesday found me helping a local park map their trail. The fun part was we walked 2 miles non-stop and I kept up. I only made us stop once or twice for about a minute.
