Current #writing #WIP:
Twin Minds - a direct follow-up to my first novel, Hidden Face, and #2 of the Cloudrend series.

A #D&D inspired #fantasy story about order, chaos, found family and healing from trauma.
Starring a suite of misfit characters, I hope to both delight and tug at your heartstrings!

9. Favourite toys

Fjorm lived the most privileged childhood of the main four. Her toy chest was overflowed with dolls carved from undersea stone, coral and even pearl. She fondly recalls a coral play sword. She would lead her dolls on 'grand revolutions'. Quite the foreshadowing.

9. Reproductive rights

There are no reproductive restrictions in wider Tsentrin, but Azrakia has had a "one child only" law for the entire War of the Mesa. For three centuries, the only siblings born were Jynrahd and his twin, and they were a fluke. A very beneficial fluke.
Good day, #DecemberWorldbuilders! How are reproductive rights and laws handled in your world? Remember, the ancient Romans had silphium which would prevent pregnancy. This is not too high-tech of a concept for 'low-tech' worlds (though perhaps not something that comes up).

9. Santa or Krampus

Do you think that in like 100 years popular culture will shift and we'll see hairy, scary men donning horns for the kids Christmas party?
I don't think so. Santa's infectious joy and mass appeal is unbeatable. All power to the jolly red man!

8. Pan rep

Trikk is pan! He's notoriously chirpy toward everyone he meets as a means of reassurance - people often panic when they see a goblin.
That philosophy of showing love to everyone extends to his orientation. Gender would never matter to him if his partner was happy with him.

8. Family units

Dragonborn culture regards the entire clan, which may consist of dozens of families, as one enormous family. You are expected to pledge yourself to the clan's protection and marry and breed within it.
Jynrahd plans to shirk that. He just wants to be happy.
Hey there, #DecemberWorldbuilders! This week I'll ask you questions related to FAMILIES. Feel free to put it in the context of any characters you've made, or how your societies in general work. Today's Q: How do family units in general work? Are they generational homes? Who moves after marriage?

8. Seasons

Hidden Face takes place in the time bridging Spring and Summer, the months of Undertow and Blazing. Twin Minds takes place in late Summer into Autumn, the months of Ash, Enervation and Prevailing.
I plan for the third book to be very winter coded. Cold and final.

7. Letters

Jynrahd's letters would all be businesslike, but in a "caring dad" kind of way that makes it clear he cares about you, but stay on topic.
Trikk's letters are rambling ten-page anecdotes, fun facts and jokes until he finally gets to the point at the end.
He signs off with :D

7. Astrology

Norne's stars are tied directly to Wind Mother Loftin, who is also the god of magic. Divination rituals involve mapping the path Loftin takes between the stars that were directly between the two moons on a person's birthday.

They are notoriously inconsistent.
Last for for our SCIENCE week, #DecemberWorldbuilders! Does your world have astrology and/or astronomy? Is it ever useful for your MCs? Tell me about your stars, friends 👀 ✨

7. Naughty vs. Nice

Jynrahd: Nice - but he doesn't agree. He's not nice. Not really.

Trikk: Nice - he's very happy to be there, he must be the only goblin!

Aurora: Nice - well, naturally. The red man doesnt see *everything*

Fjorm: Naughty - she hardly needs any approval...

6. Never quits

Trikk is probably the hardest to dissuade. Determined to live up to the prestigious surname he inherited, he works tirelessly on improving his magic and is set on adding new magical discoveries to the world.

"I want people to look at me and see a mage, not a goblin."

6. Symbiosis

Faelady Mirabilis is extremely powerful within the forest she protects, and believes she must have eyes on all of it. She has the ability to perceive through the senses of any animal or fellow forest dweller.
She is kind enough to ask permission, of course.

I need to start answering my own questions early, lol

I want to talk about the POSSESSED MORGRUGYN

You know those ants that get parasitized by a fungus that essentially turns it into a zombie? So, my world basically has a whole species of ant that forgot how to live so they
Howdy, #DecemberWorldbuilders! What are some symbiotic or parasitic relationships that occur in nature in your world? Feel free to interpret this one broadly and talk about a character with a parasitic personality, if you prefer😁 Don't worry, I'm not grading you on how much biology is in your world!

6. Snippet

A cold snap for the cold snap
December 7, 2025 at 10:33 AM
"...of what? N-never mind. I keep extra cane sugar in the satchel for moments like this. Hm. Perhaps a peppermint sprig. This will wind up unhealthy otherwise. Cannot have that..."
Gotta love a jaunty Irish accent.

Alright, tea man, give me something sweet. Something I'd like if I am used to the taste of soda pop

5. Volunteering

Jynrahd would volunteer in a leisure centre as a coach. The man is a natural trainer, knowing exactly how hard to push people to reach their fitness goals. I picture him firmly encouraging a weight loss seeker, all the while casually curling a 50kg kettlebell.

4. Cookies

Jyn: Hard, burnt crust. Soft and heartwarming on the inside.

Trikk: Oversugared, with a smiley face of frosting, kinda nutty.

Aurora: Perfectly round, white chocolate raspberry tang.

Fjorm: Oblong and fastidiously patterned. Very crunchy and sharp.

3. Disability representative

The character Kirava is blind. She uses the magical connection to her familiar, Gambit the owl, to see through his eyes. Through him, she is able to fight ably, though she retreats swiftly in the rare cases her guard drops long enough for Gambit to be hurt

5. Medicines, diseases and vaccines

Maternity clerics of Tsentrin are practised in the Rite of Balanced Spirit. Similar to an IRL baptism or christening, it blesses a newborn child with protection from both Logum and Agi. This wards off certain diseases, similar to a vaccine.
Good day, #DecemberWorldbuilders. Does your fictional world have any notable or unique diseases, medicine, or vaccination processes? What is healthcare like in your setting? Have your characters had to deal with a disease?

4. Level of tech

In 95% of Tsentrin, the role of 'technology' is filled by those practiced in magic. Machines and contraptions are rarely seen in everyday life, outside things like the printing press.
#DecemberWorldbuilders! What is the "level" of technology in your fictional world? Is it a low-tech fantasy? A high-tech sci-fi? Or something in-between? Maybe something outside the tech progression of human history. Did they invent anything ahead of us in time? Any inventions suspiciously absent?

3. Chemists & alchemists

Though he'd prefer the term 'physician', Míach qualifies as the former. He studies and develops new forms of herbal medicine from Norne's many magical plants.

Specifically, he creates healing tea blends. He'll gladly lend you his ear and his teacup.

2. People: created or evolved

Tsentrin's creation story tells of an ancient, primitive people, known as the Origins. The Origins were visited by the Four Mothers when they were still mortal. In ascending to godhood, the Mothers granted the Origins an evolved state of being.
Hello, #DecemberWorldbuilders! Tell us about the creation of your people according to the in-world lore. Were they created by gods? Did they evolve from single-celled organisms? Maybe a bit of both? Maybe they don't know, and maybe they have stories about it. What are their creation myths?

1. Science availability

Science also encompasses magic in Norne, as magic is tied directly to the stars and the wind, both of which are studied extensively by mages.
Concepts like the subatomic particle or deep space phenomena are entirely unknown here.
Welcome to the first week of #DecemberWorldbuilders! This week is about SCIENCE (broadly speaking) (you can play along even if you're writing pre-industrial fantasy!)
Today's Q: Can anyone in your world participate in scientific research? Or is it reserved for elites?

5. Wintery movies

My family tend to put on the HP movies around Xmas, and I agree they're a staple British Christmas tradition.

But for a less problematic option, I first watched The Shining on Christmas Eve night 2021, and that made me feel...cold.

4. Holiday recipes

I'm not a cook. If it doesn’t have instructions with a wattage attached I just don't wanna know.
I do, however, make a mean hot chocolate. A smidge of vanilla, whipped cream and a crumbled-up Oreo is my go-to.
Man, I'm gonna put on half a DeVito this month.

3. Winter book recs

Every aspiring fantasy writer should read Legends and Lattes at least once. I know, that's like recommending Friends or The Simpsons, but let me tell you this: no book has ever made me feel cosier and more at home in its world. Perfect for a chilly winter.

2. Holidays

Many festivals and holidays are celebrated in Norne, as in the real world. Around this time of year, they partake in Loftin’s Day.

Today, the goal is to learn something new. A fun fact or easy skill. You then share it at the evening meal, chanting "Loftin knows!"
