Thinking about it, a quote post would have been worse imo as that would have only been visible to Joel’s usual circle.

But I’m completely on board with calling out Ruby Central and holding them accountable, who Jim seems to be speaking for with his post. Maybe a quote post would have been better but that’s minutia.

I absolutely believe Jim has the best intentions and his call to action is a potential stepping stone to improving the talk selection at RubyConf, plus RubyConf itself hadn’t struck me as problematic since the early days.

I do agree tone matters. I think Jim is a very nice person who puts a lot of effort into the community. But I’m fully on board with calling out conference organizers that unapologetically changed their stance on platforming white supremacists, especially as Jim explicitly mentioned said organizer.

Hah fun! All but one are fairly skittish. And even that one is careful. I think they might get chased away quite a bit in Berlin. The others call that one if the setup changes even the slightest as they are too scared to inspect it (like when I put warm water out for them after everything froze).
