I watch and rewatch Felicity with pretty decent regularity and am absolutely convinced that show shaped a significant part of my life. It may well be my favorite show.

My profile of the delightful Keri Russell, the darkly funny, surprisingly introverted former New Mickey Mouse Club member who—even after Felicity, The Americans and The Diplomat!—has never fully embraced the idea of herself as an actress: www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
Keri Russell’s Emotional Transparency Has Anchored Three Decades of TV
But, offscreen, she’s not even sure that she wants to be an actress.

So much wrong this week, but today, before the sun rose, my eleven-year-old and I ran sharing earbuds and listening to the new Taylor album. There was some dancing.

Absolutely thrilled with the cover @univnebpress.bsky.social has designed for my book, The New Old Style: Anachronism in Contemporary Comics (coming August ‘26)! And special thanks to the wonderful and generous Cole Closser for allowing me to use their art.
Cover of a book titled The New Old Style: Anachronism in Contemporary Comics, by Matthew Levay. The cover features three vertically-arranged panels. The middle features the book’s title against a black background, while the top and bottom feature colorful drawings of a boy with white circles for eyes, done in a style clearly reminiscent of 1920s and 1930s-era newspaper comics and designed to appear as if they are printed on old newsprint.

Did you unexpectedly call me? Was I supposed to unexpectedly call you? If so, I took no further notes and need help.

Most days I think about an acquaintance who, after the 2016 election, told me, "It's going to be fine, though, because Republicans will provide all the necessary checks and balances. They won't just give up."

Someone said to me the other day "Well, even if they get in, Farage won't be able to enact his plans..." and I really think this line of response is not up to the current reality. We're so desperate for the trouble to be indefinitely delayed, but it's here and has been.

I regret to share that my cat (and another cat I used to have!) actually enjoys getting his nails cut. Like, rests on his back and purrs the whole time with lil flexi paws. So sorry.

So my kid is training some terrible AI edtech, while the class complains (it also kept saying the kids' names out loud and the kids were super creeped out by it) and teachers apologize, and not only does no one learn -- learning is actively resisted by the platform. Cool.
