Retired from health care, now indulging my creative side (woodworking, guitar, singing/songwriting, artistic painting) with a little golf sprinkled in. Lifelong Michigan resident. Trying to stay sane and have fun!
Let’s see, 1966 - was that Harry Gilmer? Such a parade of ineptitude.
BTW, thank you for your service to our country!

Couldn’t read your piece because of the f-ing paywall, but here’s the simple truth: winning in the NFL is very hard. ONE team gets it right each year and the other 31 bitch and moan with the woulda-coulda-shoulda’s.
December 15, 2025 at 3:54 PM
Sure it was a botched call but does anyone really think the Rams wouldn’t have scored a TD anyway with first and goal at the one? This call wasn’t the difference in the game.
December 15, 2025 at 3:49 PM
…perspective, every year, ONE team (the eventual champion) gets it right. ONE TEAM out of 32 gets the right mix of offense, defense, depth to help with injuries and/or avoiding them. The other 31 say what we’re saying right now, coulda shoulda. Yes it’s frustrating but, remember the Matt Millen era?

Well…let’s just say the defense is still our weakest link. Would you trade one of our offensive stars for a big improvement on the D-line? If not we’d have to spend big in free agency cuz fixing it through the draft hasn’t worked very well. The O line needs work too. It’s complicated, and for…

Yep - next year the Bears and Lions respective schedules will probably flip. At first I thought the Bears were lucky but now I admit that they are a pretty good team. Ben Johnson has done a great job. I hate the Bears because their fans are braggarts but I give the actual team their due credit.
December 15, 2025 at 3:04 PM
Yep - bad 3rd qtr but overall they played pretty well and lost a close game to what is presently the best team in the league with the probable league MVP at quarterback. No shame in that.
December 15, 2025 at 2:58 PM
…injuries. Yes every team has them but where and when they occur and their severity is entirely unpredictable. This team is still very solid at its core but I do think Holmes has to make a bold move through trade or free agency to improve the defensive and offensive lines during the offseason.

I agree 100%. MANY teams would love to be where the Lions are right now. Winning in the NFL is hard and our guys have had a tough schedule. Next season’s could be a little better in terms of opponents outside our division. Every year, at least 50% of the equation for success comes down to…

Yes, he played well, as did the rest of the team who lost a close game to the best team in the NFL. No shame in that.
December 15, 2025 at 2:35 PM
Oh c’mon. The Lions lost a close game to the best team (right now) in the NFL. It’s a tough league.
December 15, 2025 at 2:30 PM
The problems can all be traced to fourth-string DB’s. Linebackers were trying to drop into coverage while also having to plug running lanes and nobody can be in two places at once. Leave Holmes alone. No GM can avert the problems caused by the back-up to the back-up to the back-up being hurt.
December 15, 2025 at 2:26 PM
The “defensive collapse” was fourth-string DB’s being carved up by a future HOF quarterback and two great receivers.

It’s obvious Trump’s plans for the construction of various edifices will include naming them after himself and I suspect there’s nothing preventing him from doing so. So years after this pustule of a person is gone he’ll still be a subject of discussion and attention when we want to tear them down.

Being a Tigers fan, I think Al Kaline, Mickey Stanley and Willie Horton were pretty damn good, but Rice, Lynn and Evan’s were the best in my lifetime. I don’t know what my guys’ stats were.

And ya’ know, these days this whole situation says way more about the people who support and protect him than the man himself. That people are allowing this lunatic to literally destroy the country and endanger the world is THE most disgraceful aspect of all.

Normally me too, but I read this one. His delusions are off the charts. As Jerry once said to George Costanza: “you need a whole team of psychiatrists working around the clock…”
December 12, 2025 at 3:05 PM
I’ll always have the utmost respect for this guy. Any of my fellow Lions fans who boo him are poor sports and have short memories. He was a great Lion and he deserves all the success he’s achieved with the Rams.

It seems to me that many of us white Americans fail to understand that our African American brothers and sisters eclipse us in their ability to recognize the merits of democracy despite the actions and behaviors of its worst and most misguided practitioners.
December 7, 2025 at 3:32 PM
The loss to the Vikings may turn out to be this season’s undoing. That’s a team they should have beat and didn’t. They have a chance to counterbalance that by beating the Rams, a team they shouldn’t beat.
December 5, 2025 at 1:37 PM
This was a solid performance to beat a streaking team, suggesting our Lions still have some gas left in the tank. I doubt they can beat the Rams, but would love to see them get to the final game with the Bears at 10-6 and not completely decimated by injuries.

…country’s very first policy fuck-up - slavery. It was never properly addressed in our founding documents. Most southerners didn’t hate African Americans, they needed them because their entire economic structure was dependent upon them. As heinous as slavery was, today’s climate is worse as I see it

I used to think the Civil War was worse than the current constitutional crisis. But not any more. These daily reports revealing the depths of hatred and lawlessness that abound in this administration eclipse anything that happened during the Civil War, which was the culmination of a young…

This work is amazing, but I’m reminded of the art professor at a prominent Midwest school who told me “don’t try to compete with the camera, you’ll never win.”
