Hello #portfolioday

I’m Robbie, Illustrator from Scotland who loves storytelling, nature and all that intertwined with a little fantasy-whimsy! Currently I’m looking for work within illustration/book spaces. I also have experiences working for animation/games.

Hope you like my work ✨⚔️🌳
An illustration of an artist’s cartoony interpretation of what it would look like within Bilbo Baggin’s Hobbit hole. We see the evening sun lighting up the warm and cosy hovel which is full of items from Bilbo’s adventures. Maps are sprawled across tables amongst pots of tea and slices of pie, shelves are piled with all-sorts and bits and bobs. Books lay on floors gathering dust and if we look closely there’s a block of cheese left out for a friendly mouse. There is also a room in the back which is the kitchen, full of chunky wooden furniture covered in all types of kitchenware. It’s a messy but cosy lifestyle for mr Bilbo. The illustration is decorated with a border which shows the exterior of Bag End and the hills around it! A pencil drawing of a little gnome taking a nap up against the trunk of a large tree with multiple trunks reaching out like a spreader hand. He nestles his small self amongst the plants and mosses, finding comfort, slowly nodding off to the sounds of warblers chirping above him. The pencil drawing has a digital border of green colours featuring different types of tree leaves and seeds. A crop of a pencil illustration showing a wolf character with a torch in hands lighting the path before him. There is a tree to his left curling its branches around him and framing the picture. Within its hollow are 2 bright white glowing eyes that seek startled by the commotion on its doorstep. Beyond the wolf and down a valley we see what looks to be some type of crumbling structure beyond. Maybe that’s their destination! A watercolour plein air study of a pinewood with various types of pines, from saplings to full grown. Resting with his back against the trunk is a rabbit soldier named Preswick Hopperfoot. He sits and ponders with pipe in hand as the sun begins to set and its warmth with it. He’s about to begin his shift into the long night as a member of the Warrenguard.

#inktober2025 - Moustache Merlin ✨

Please find and enjoy a little story excerpt in the alt text that goes along with it! Cheers :)

Drawn with Sailor Fude De Mannen fountain pen 🖋️
Look here I say boy, it takes a lot to be me!
I think all day and I think when I sleep!

Let’s see, what do you think when you think of a tree? It should be wisdom I would think and becoming with that thought what is it that you see?

Well you’d think you just see a tree but it is also me! My moustache grows like the oak and bush and the birds and the bees nest within it. Longer and itchier it becomes as the sea gets deeper and dirtier!

Astounded you are yes I see it, I SEE!

You’d love for me to go on but I cannot think of this no more, on with you now, tick-tock there’s the door!

Yup, it was really noticeable within my hometown. All of a sudden you’d see all the teenagers going down the town on their school lunches looking like wee English gangsters! The flock like sheep to the oddest of trends haha

I know within the uk it was popularised by the Peaky Blinders tv show!

An old sketchbook page with some brain rumbles and tumbles. Derelict homes inhabited by wonky minded wizards consumed by nature :)

Happy weekend to you all! Let’s try to forget the real world for a day
#sketchbook #trees #wizards
Old sketchbook page featuring graphite drawings of a rusty tree study, a wonky gnarled structure of buildings on an erected piece of earth consumed by nature and whomping trees whirling and twisting around them. A set of stairs leads to a door into the earth. A reclusive wizard is sure to inhabit this place. Also there is a small whimsical illustration of a landscape lit by large moon

windy woodland wizard wanderings!

Page from the sketchbook :) #sketch #wizard #drawing
Sketchbook pencil drawings showing a wizard walking through a woodland on a windy day. Leaves are blowing and branches are creaking. The wind howls through hollows waking up sleepy owls and whistles while it flees through each and every grass blade.

Birch Trees in a meadow, study from last year :)

I was out crossing some fields in Perthshire, Scotland and found these colossal birch trees beyond a crumbling stone wall at the very back of a somewhat deserted cow field. Their trunks were like old oaks or sycamore, the largest birches I've seen!
Found behind a crumbling stone wall at the back of a few rolling cow fields that seemed to be deserted by their grass grazers; I found a meadow filled with Birch giants. The size of these birch trees was nothing I had seen before! Their trunks were that of oaks or a sycamore. I decided to take the time to study one of the large friends within its hollow. It was a two necked Birch. I tried to capture its silver bark shimmering in a windy, cloud wavering day in the Scottish midlands. When I look at this pencil drawing of this large birch I am reminded of the many walks I took with my dog to get there and the electric fence I was jolted by as I attempted to hop over it.

I finished the final of this piece months ago. Alas I am yet to share it. Seems to be the case with most of my new work. I don’t really know why I am so reluctant to share work these days.

“The Mirror of Galadriel”

A sketch for chapter 7 of the fellowship :)

Getting carried away in the sketchbook as usual but I think with some adjusting and more space, I have a good idea of an illustration for one of my favourite moments from then books.

#sketchbook #lotr #illustration
Sketchbook pencil drawing illustrating Chapter 7 of JRR Tolkien’s Fellowship of the Ring - “The Mirror of Galadriel”. From the bottom of the image is a shallow stairway path intertwined with tree roots where Frodo Baggins, under a tree-made archway is following Galadriel as she carries a vase of water up to her Mirror. Surrounding the place where her Mirror sits are trees of all kinds within Lothlorién looming and flowing together with elven-made architecture. Through the forest we can see tree-spiralling stairways and safe havens amongst the canopies. Above all the moon sits in a dark sky full and shining, alighting all below her.

Tales from the Sketchbook 🐉

'WHO BE YOU AND WHY HAVE YOU COME?'

The Dragons asks with his neck stretched and his tale wrapped around the foolish traveller who is unbeknownst to his recent entrapment.

'Well, well I am no one sir and I have come by mere happenstance sir'.

#sketchbook #dragon #art
Sketchbook drawing of a wandering traveller who has found himself in a vast cave whose only inhabitant is a lonesome Dragon. The dragon stretches out its long neck whilst beginning to wrap its tale around the lost traveller who is unbeknownst to his entrapment. They look to be in conversation but it is yet to be known how this encounter will end.

Some hobbit house explorations from a while ago. I still think there is great potential for a lovely animated hobbity adventure show!🌳

I’d prob explore these ideas quite differently now but I still like them as little drawings

#tolkien #drawing #sketch #lotr
A compiled sheet of sketches of hobbit hovels, exploring the shapes and how the houses intertwine with the hills and trees they are nestled within. There is also a study of Bilbo at his desk from The Fellowship movie nestled within the sketches.

I love painting faces and was really looking forward to all the cool creatures of Lorwyn since the first one was before my time. But I guess someone has to paint a horrific creature with the absence of a face. 🤷‍♂️
Painting of an elemental incarnation called Emptiness, a giant faceless skeletal creature, trailing smoke and walking through a swamp

Grandpa mole and his slightly more stout son are chuffed with their recent molehill marvel, a dirt castle!🏰

#moles #nature #drawing #castles
A rough sketchy drawing of a proud father and son mole look up upon their dirt castle. Its rickety towers are graced with small, weedy flowers and plants used as flags to guide nearby wayfarers back home. They use clumpy and clayish mud for the windows and doors and a slightly more soft and stoney dirt for the foundations. These moles know their stuff when building muddy marvels!

Sun was setting and his shift was about to begin. It’s a tough gig defending his woodlands from brigands of the border but Preswick Hopperfoot finds solitude behind a pine with pipe in hand and the last light of day to warm his heavy heart. 🌲🐇🗡️

#watercolour #illustration #woodlands
A watercolour and coloured pencil painting study of a local Scotland collection of pine trees during sunset. The sun is coming in between the part of the forest silhouetting a large tree in the foreground. Sitting with his back to the tree is a rabbit smoking a pipe, his sword resting up against the trunk as he puffs. The image has a nostalgic feeling.

Harold the Hare, he loves a good stare, across hill, cranny and nook. His weary eyes rest across the horizon after long days of reading passages in dusty books and organising his collection. It’s honest and hard work as a book salesman along the river which he reads. His rest is well deserved!

🐇📚
A pencil illustration depicting a Hare named Harold sitting outside of his bookstore which is within a hollowed out pine, stretching about 4 or 5 stories tall (if you count the cramped attic). Harold enjoys resting his eyes across the fading hills just outside on his porch, pipe in hand, a puff every few seconds or so until it’s time to make some dinner.
