When the show is done I can take as much time off as I need - I'm not required to work a shift the next day. (This becomes a greyer area for full time employees in a union position). We've had sold out performances cancelled because members of the crew would be over their allowed hours.

Bringing in someone to cover while I take a day off doesn't work for the show since they won't know what needs to be done and the show suffers (or fails outright). In this case, I choose to be on the show, it's not forced from above.

We have laws here too, but I work in an industry that this doesn't always make sense. Live theatre on the professional level often has a labour and time intensive setup and tech run which might run afoul of the labour laws.

Interestingly there's a lot of talk about the gov't back to the office decision and how the employees have no reliable way to get there. It's really fucked up here.
