Some tree geeking; the blue-black stained wood is associated with metal bolts placed into the tree. Note that the staining is confined to the wood at the time of the wound. The wood that has grown over them (new wood) is clear - demonstrating the trees seal, they don’t heal. #nature #science

This is one of the many chestnut trees called Humphrey. I have no idea why they are called that, but I do like this guy (Dunedin Botanic Gardens. New Zealand)

I worked on this tree (Mataī - Prumnopitys taxifolia) over 20 years ago. It was falling apart then and it still is now, but I’m falling apart faster…
