Our book-club thing has various benchmarks from a walkthrough used as as suggested progress points each week, but DQII is one of those games that gets pretty open-ended once you get your boat, so... I may be ahead or behind or possibly both! Find out when we meet up on Thursday.

I don't think I could do it anymore, but at one point I could beat Tyson in round 1 IIRC. You pretty much have to hit him every possible time and never get hit but it is doable.

Manus, Kalameet, and Gwyn done with. I guess I'll try and put more focus on DQII for a bit and then figure out what wall I want to beat my head against next.

Dumb thing happened when I was fighting Manus: my brain went "Wait, this is just Punch-Out," and it all went pretty smoothly from there.

It’s a shame @thedailyshow.com would rehabilitate a misinformation peddling right-wing operative.

Very sad.

(grimly, the most prominent person who matched him in this strategic insight re: the value of initiative was the guy who saw Grant coming at Fort Donelson and immediately made a run for it, everyone's pal Nathan Bedford Forrest.)

he was ABSOLUTELY exponentially better at strategy than most of his contemporaries. this is because most of his contemporaries were reciting chapter and verse from what they'd heard at West Point, which was all about war as engineering project, slow and deliberate and perfectly planned out.

much is explained by the fact Ulysses S. Grant was not a smart man, and so never learned any of what they were teaching at West Point while he was there

either the slow, deliberate military strategy or the social "exist in constant terror you might offend someone from the South and end your career"
