Four years ago, I first ran for City Council because I saw the ways our communities were too often ignored by people in power.

Today, I’m proud to say I've stood by my promise to be a voice for the people and to organize alongside you.

Minneapolis can’t thrive if families are financially strapped because of childcare costs. I will continue to explore how our city can support a municipal program and look forward to more conversations with residents and government partners.

Remote policies helped women work. In-office mandates and child care costs are driving them back out.
Low flexibility and high child care costs are pushing mothers with young kids back out after they joined the workforce in record numbers during the pandemic.

Working families need universal childcare. In the absence of federal or state action, local electeds must step up to provide support. Last year, I was proud to have led council to allocate funding for childcare workforce development.

“And we, as a community, need to create urgency around it if we care about the workforce, if we care about the economics, if we care about childhood development. All of those are vital to the longer-term success of our whole community and our economy.”

“In Minnesota, it costs $22,569 a year on average to send an infant to daycare — more than in-state tuition for a four-year public college, according to data from the Economic Policy Institute…. It’s no longer a child care crisis: It’s a child care collapse”

The fascist strikes MPLS once again. Our separation ordinance is not going anywhere. ICE & Trump’s minions are not welcome here.mI will use all the tools I have as Council Member to protect our residents, regardless of race, immigration status, socio-economic status, & sexuality.

Great news! Friendly reminder that Mayor Frey did not sign council action on this authored by @robin4mpls.bsky.social and I.
MAYOR ACTION

Mayor did not sign this action within the time specified by City Charter.
This action is valid and effective as if approved by the Mayor.

I am proud to have stood with students, faculty, community members, and more as we fought for a ceasefire and end to the genocide of Palestinians. There is still work to do, and I encourage you to join me in supporting a end to the surveillance contract with Zen City. Read more → buff.ly/S1hFm4b
Cut the Contract with Israeli surveillance company Zencity!
The Issue: In October 2023, the City of Minneapolis contracted Israeli tech company ZenCity to use “existing ad networks to deliver anonymous, hyper-local community surveys” to poll Minneapolis…

“Judge finds the Trump administration unconstitutionally targeted noncitizens over Gaza war protests”

This headline is not surprising. Ward 2 has been a home to many protests against the genocide in Gaza, and we’ve seen the retaliatory actions and push to punish protestors even locally.

They plan to do a formal bid later in the winter for work to begin in the spring of 2026. The work is still moving forward. I look forward to the eventual opening of the Witch’s Hat- hopefully in 2026!

The Mayor’s Finance and Property Services Dept. has been responsible for using this funding to repair the Tower. My office received an update that the dept. made a 2nd attempt at soliciting bids for contractors that was unsuccessful.
robin4mpls.bsky.social
Prior to the covid pandemic, it was opened a few times per year, with thousands of residents flocking for the opportunity to see the unique view from the top. The Tower has been closed since 2020.
robin4mpls.bsky.social
In 2023, I led Council to allocate $350,000 in response to community advocacy to re-open the Witch’s Hat Tower so it could be safely reopened for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Republicans and conservatives are pouring thousands of dollars into this race to unseat me. I rely on grassroots, people-powered organizing. Right now, our campaign needs you. Donate and/or sign up to volunteer now! robinformpls.com

“Depending on how several other key races shake out, Ward 2, which includes the area in and around the University of Minnesota, could prove to be a tie-breaking seat on the 13-member council.”
robin4mpls.bsky.social
“With fundraising totals showing it’s the second-most expensive race in the city, the race appears to be the biggest push in several years by Frey’s coalition to disrupt the progressive majority on the council in one of its strongholds.”
robin4mpls.bsky.social
“Minneapolis Ward 2 election could play pivotal role in City Council control”

This is the headline of today’s Star Tribune article that outlined key differences between me and my Republican-funded opponent. The stakes couldn’t be higher.

It is unacceptable that Black voices begging MPD for help are just ignored. Mariah’s life mattered. My heart is with her family and I will do whatever I can to support their efforts to get justice for her.
robin4mpls.bsky.social
MPD’s failure here is continuing their documented history of devaluing Black lives. Mariah was a mother of two and did everything she could to document and report her abuse to protect herself. The system, and specifically MPD failed her.
robin4mpls.bsky.social
Mariah did everything right. Just like Alison Lussier, an Indigenous woman who was killed last year after asking MPD for help repeatedly and identifying her abuser. Just like Davis Moturi, who called MPD repeatedly before he was shot and nearly killed by his neighbor.
robin4mpls.bsky.social
Right before she was killed, Mariah shared on social media she was scared her abuser was stalking her and that the police weren’t doing enough to keep her safe. She went through the process that victims must go through to get an order of protection. She did everything right.
robin4mpls.bsky.social
Mariah Samuels was a Black woman who was shot and killed in front of her home September 14 by a man she repeatedly identified as dangerous. Before being killed, Mariah experienced domestic violence and went to MPD for help.

Robin Wonsley of @twincitiesdsa.org is running for her third term on Minneapolis City Council!

Here’s Robin on why she’s running as an independent and the importance of distinguishing ourselves from both the Democrats and Republicans as socialists.

There was also a collective call for more to be done by testifiers. We know the housing crisis will continue to worsen as the impacts of the federal cuts rip through our city. I am excited for 🛑 to pass next week and will continue the fight to expand more renter protections city-wide.
