New in PN: The slide toward "competitive authoritarianism"

"Orbán subverted Hungary’s democracy with gerrymandering and by creating a nationwide right-wing media network. He put loyalists in the public prosecutor’s office, ensuring the judicial system would go after his enemies. Sound familiar?"

The latest data show rising prices remain a major threat to the U.S. economy, contradicting Trump’s claim that inflation does not pose a problem.

“The siege is coming from inside the house. If this is what it looks like when Trump decides he wants to save the economy, God help us if he ever decides to destroy it,” @dkthomp.bsky.social writes:
The Dumbest Economic Policy in Modern History
Trump’s tariff plan looks like an abject disaster for America, even judged against the benchmarks the administration has set for itself.

And this is what we get
And there it is. Putin’s lifelong dream. After years of relentless Russian propaganda, now fully embraced by the American president and the world’s richest oligarch, millions of Americans are convinced that this is a good plan because Europe is an enemy and Putin is our friend.

This is exactly what I expect from my elected officials. They must defend the rule of law!
I’m pretty sure this is what voters want from their elected officials

Good idea. I have my official Social Security statement. D
You should print out your Social Security Statement. Elon and who knows how many countless others now have access to your private information, so it'd be wise to have a record of it.

Trump is unhinged and a sociopath
When asked if he was going to visit the crash site he said, ‘what site? The water? You want me to go swimming?’ This is one of the last pics of the young skaters who died. He’s a sociopath. Anyone who voted for this monster should be ashamed at best.
