Happy New Year and all that. Another trip around the sun. The World Turns is a way of saying things change. What's new for you? What do you want to change? This song is a kind of executive summary of my album Finding Time which follows that theme from start to finish (available at all good […]

I crushed it? Or you crushed me.
icydk, Tunecore is one of the digital distribution companies that takes your [#music, sends it to all the streaming platforms and collects your royalties, namely approx. 2p in this case.]

It's #BandcampFriday and my album is no cheaper for you today than on any other. If anyone did buy it I'd get about 60p more. #bigdeal
But no one will. Instead I will concentrate on writing a book that explains why it's worth buying.

The state of the #music business: somehow I managed to earn one hundredth of a penny this quarter (or year?) from Bahrain through PRS.

Touching final moment on the making of #bowie's Blackstar with producer Tony Visconti. "He went out like a legend. Like a god." Then his voice catches. "And I want people to think of him like that."

#musicbusiness reflection
Tunecore (who distribute my #music to the streaming platforms) needed my new credit card details to renew. I did pause to wonder if it's worth it. It would take 500 full listens to the entire album just to pay the distribution fee. If you're unknown that's a lot of […]

#BandcampFriday
Sorry. It's no cheaper for you today but I'd get a few pennies more if you buy it.
£5 is still its cost, not its value.

What's special about Bandcamp?
It allows artists to host their music to be streamed for free or downloaded at a price of their choice. Amazon typically charge 30% of the price in fees. Think about it. Maybe three quid just to download a few files. That's what near monopoly allows you to do […]

Let's try Stockhausen:

30th May next year will mark half a century of #thebeatles's #rain. I propose it's declared International Rain Day. Kills me that this was just a B side.

Tomorrow is #BandcampFriday but if you can't wait I'll be more than happy. Finding Time is about finding time to do what's meaningful to you. It took me years. You only have to find 50 minutes and thirty four seconds. And £5 if you want it for keeps.

Always rewarding when someone actually listens to your music and lets you know it.

"Just listened to the whole album. Gorgeous! Put me in a lovely, grounded and calm mental state… quite an achievement!"

"How deep,
do you think,
is the sea we're swimming in?
Are you drinking it all in?
Do you barely have an inkling?
Do have a needle eye
for winkling out the key?
Can you shrink the twinkling sky
for the universe to see?"
- Herring, by me.

The point in my album Finding Time that acknowledges that […]

A lot of folk here understandably loath the streaming sites because of the pittance they pay artists. But if you only stream from Bandcamp without ever downloading, artists will get less than if you streamed from even stingy Spotify, ie, precisely £€$0.00. Article on the surprising best […]

FWIW it's #BandcampFriday. TBH, I'd just be happy if you gave it a decent listen. It rewards attention. Delighted if you download it on any day. If today (with no fees (except VAT)), utterly euphoric.
