"But Robin you're only 30"
Yes but spiritually I was born 55

So if it does happen, I'd bet it'll be something with "Conservative" in the name before 2040

The road trip resumes today as we leave BC for Alberta! We've stopped at the stunning (and stunningly cold) Waterton Lakes National Park!

My Dad recalls Mum insisting on regular "driving to the hospital" drills, including multiple alternate routes, etc. She went into labour at 3am and they sailed there with no traffic in 15 minutes and proceeded to have me within a few hours.

I suppose the question is then what makes you different from Saskytoba. Some mountains? But those are the bit that's basically BC.

I worry about what the declining prominence of oil in the economy (pretty inevitable regardless of their ongoing attempts to prop it up) will do to AB politics. Can't build nationalism on cattle and very straight roads.

That said, Alberta separatism now is where Brexit was 20 years ago - a loud and persistent part of one major party and a smattering of weird freaks. Keep it that way rather than constantly humouring it.

We're probably past the point where a single interview can destroy a party but in terms of telling your opponents "don't tickle me there or I'll wet myself" this is up there with "funny tinge" (too flippant but part of a well-meant statement) or that Diane Abbott one (everyone can have an off day).

Having a rest day in Fernie to do some work and recover from two solid days of driving before we leave BC and head into Alberta. Here's the view from our hotel room!

Our second (and penultimate) brewery of the day is Encore in Cranbrook, another 90 minutes down the road. Very cool vibe (and a bowling alley) although sadly we don't have time to bowl...

Three hours of driving later (plus an hour from crossing into Mountain Time), via a stop at the World's Largest Paddle, we have arrived to check off Invermere Brewing! It is... Okay!

Mountains were absolutely spectacular though. Shame we weren't allowed to stop due to avalanche risk.

Stopping for coffee and a change of driver in Revelstoke, home of pretty mountains and a very classy art deco city hall. Yay for municipal architecture!

Day 2 begins with the classiest decor so far: a stained glass automatic door.

It worries me that the sweet spot for messaging seems to be "don't worry that you've failed at something, the machines will make sure you never have to feel such shame again" because it's antithetical to the idea of personal growth and also I can see how it would be compelling.
