for what it’s worth - the public’s descent into insanity, i believe, is because the stagnate legislature has prevented the democratic mechanism’s primary function, which is trial and error, from informing the voters of the consequences of their choices. the solution is still democracy
Something I’ve commented on before is that there’s this thing a lot of my fellow liberals do, where they believe that the voters cannot make a genuinely bad/dumb choice. That, if they decide on something awful, it must be that they were deceived! And unfortunately I just don’t think this is true
