BTW, this is my big weekly football roundup. It’s also got entries about Alabama, Arch, trick plays and weird rules. And you can get it in your inbox every Monday for free

The greatest coach in NFL history took a college job. The idea was that his schematic superiority and legendary discipline would instantly outclass unsophisticated opponents in a second-tier sport.

and then...
he lost his first game...
BY THIRTY FOUR POINTS
They hired Bill Belichick for THIS?!?!?
Is this your GOAT? (Plus, Arch Manning, calling Paul Finebaum, and the highlight that made me change my national championship pick.)

Now that we are a few days removed from this play, it’s time for my widely reviled, but correct take that most of these pre-goal line fumbles should be ruled illegal forward passes and result in a 5-yard penalty instead of a turnover. Especially this one, he clearly threw it forward

After zaprudering the Emari Demercado goal line fumble I think he actually broke the plane before losing the ball. The corrupt and very dishonest mainstream media won't tell you this.
Emari Demercado fumbling at the goal line in Week 5

Unclear to file this under “Bill Belichick likes trying to see if he can get away with rules violations,” “Bill Belichick didnt figure out the rules of college football before becoming a college football coach,” or “Bill Belichick has no idea what’s going on with recruiting”

I like how all the Tigers fans around this guy are pumped for him. The type of opposing fan who is so ridiculous and charming that they win you over by the end of the game

I need Cal Raleigh to hit a second home run directly to this man to see how committed he is to the bit
brianmfloyd.bsky.social
the guy who caught cal raleigh’s homer was wearing a shirt that said dump 61 here and he immediately took it off and had a shirt that said dump 62 here

……. Maybe I am showing my ignorance of large swaths of sports media, but were people hyping this up? The vast majority of college football people seemed to clue onto it being a disaster from the start

did you remember to snag this in the Fantasy Things draft?!?!?!?!

yeah lol at how they got access to do a documentary which got WAY MORE INTERESTING AFTER THEY AGREED TO DO IT and that's why they have to stop filming
santelli.bsky.social
I'm not saying anything new, but we've got to stop referring to these kinds of sports content projects as "documentaries."

This UNC incident is just further proof that almost all of them are PR plays taking on a form similar to documentaries.

I truly don’t think I have ever seen a team lose a football game like the Arizona Cardinals lost a football game on Sunday. Multiple uniquely destructive plays where they simply had to act normal but instead gave the other team free points and possessions
A masterclass in collapsing
I've never seen a team make this many inexplicable, catastrophic, unforced errors. Plus! SKYCAM DRAMA, an identity crisis in Philly, and more.

The Chiefs going 12-0 in one-score games last year and 0-3 this year is a clear omen the gods have abandoned them. It should be treated the same way ancient peoples treated solar eclipses and floods. They must sacrifice Harrison Butker at sunrise to rid themselves of evil

Why is there anything weird going on with the Las Vegas Raiders’ run game and offensive line play right now
rodger.bsky.social
Like Belichick literally just needed to trust some of his semi-dumb friends instead of his dumbest friends, his children, and his dumbest friends’ children
rodger.bsky.social
One funny subplot to the Belichick UNC disaster is that two of his former buddies working as college assistants (Ohio State DC Matt Patricia and Ole Miss QB coach Joe Judge) are legitimately doing incredible work right now

(despite me repeatedly saying they would be disasters)

Lombardi spent his first offseason recruiting a QB transfer he immediately decided he didn’t want anymore leading to a fight over NIL money and then had to go get a new QB after spring ball. The evaluation and tactical brilliance of a superior NFL mind

Tragic news from Canada where the Canadian Supreme Court has gone from the official dress on the left to the one on the right
Canadian Supreme court. Everyone is dressed in bright red wooly gowns, with a beige trim. It looks sort of like a Santa robe The Canadian Supreme court. Everyone is dressed in black gowns with a bright white kravat, and two thin red vertical lines on the side of the robe
