Honoured that Leonard and Hungry Paul has been included in the @irishtimes.com 100 best Irish books of the 21st century (so far), at 38. Thanks so much to the contributors who selected it.

(Ps. I was a contributor but didn't nominate or upvote my own book.)

From FB:

Had the worst day ever. I paid a joiner to build me a double bed and he's done a bunk.

It's just one thing on top of another.

I'm not feeling great about it, though have also developed a sort of numbness about this sort of thing.

Hamid Ismailov – possible Nobel dark horse?

The Turkoslavia Collective is thrilled that our contributor Hamid Ismailov (tr. Shelley Fairweather-Vega in issues 2 + 4) is the honorary chair of @wwborders.bsky.social's 2025 Gala!

I feel that Kasuo Ishiguro and Abdulrazak Gurnah winning in recent years makes it less likely that we'll have another UK winner so soon. McEwan seems more like a Booker type to me. Not sure how influential his writing is internationally.

Here's a lecture where Can Xue explains (describes?) her work. I have watched this several times. Always casts a spell over me.

Watford have reappointed Javi Gracia as manager. Second time they've reappointed a manager I think, after Flores (third if you include Graham Taylor). It's like a penalty shoot out where everyone has already taken one so they go round again.

I think they're right to take account of balance but I'm thinking about someone like Can Xue – wouldn't want her miss out (age 72) because a female Asian writer won last year for the first time, so they shouldn't feel they don't need another one straight away.

This project reminds me of the Disintegration Loops by William Basinski.

I know the Nobel spreads things around geographically & alternates male/female, but if there's someone they really think is deserving they should skip all that and give it to them. A lot of tipped names are in their seventies and people like Ngugi Wa Thiongo died this year. Don't leave it too long!

I'm afraid it crumbled in 1995, about one week after it happened.

I remember writing essays where in lieu of academic citations, I put in my friends names/years of birth because why not.

I have bought, but not yet read, Salvador by Joan Didion, which might fit the bill.

Good morning.

I've had a lie in.

This is the novel that @ronanhession.bsky.social read that introduced him to Bluemoose.

The Man With A Seagull on His Head by Harriet Paige.

'A bone fide gem.' @theguardian.com

The start of a wonderful literary journey.

Magic.

Brew time.
