Sent by King Polydectes, Perseus, armed with Athena’s shield, Hermes’ sandals, and Hades’ helm, beheaded Medusa as she slept. From her blood sprang Pegasus and Chrysaor. He wielded her head as a weapon before gifting it to Athena, who placed it on her aegis as a divine symbol
