I don't know what he was dreaming about last night, but he kept talking about a mystery stone that's yellow and square. As his DM, I feel obliged to incorporate such an object in an upcoming game.

Me: That wall is a statement colour, that one is wallpaper, and that one is stone
Him: It's one room
Me: It's rags to riches
Him: Exactly
Me: We have the money
Him: That is not the concern
Me: See, it's great, I'm so cool
Him: You've never been cool
Me: I've never been coolER

Some phrases are so well-known, you don't need to say the whole thing to be understood.

E.g., you can say "birds of a feather" without saying "flock together."

-“When life hands you lemons…”
-“Great minds…”
-“When in Rome…”

Such partial phrases are called 'anapodotons.'

You ‘run the gamut’ and ‘run the gauntlet.’

You don’t ‘run the gambit.’

gamut = entire range or series

gauntlet = severe trial

Gambit = Alpha-level mutant who can convert potential energy to kinetic energy

Today also goes by many names around Canada.
Heritage Day, Colonel By Day, Terry Fox Day and more.
This is the story of the August Civic Holiday and its many names.
