Karabel Relief, c.Late 13th Century BCE, Western Anatolia, Turkey.

Likely of the King of Mira, Tarkasnawa, a client of the Hittite Empire.

I took this photo in 2011, on my research trip to Turkey with the University of Exeter.

Again, Fry has written a wonderful book that makes the Ancient World, and the enagmatic Homer, accessible and enjoyable for all whilst still maintaining the sense of specialism.

Storytelling at its finest.

In the midst of a friendly debate with a colleague.

Some GCSE exam-boards & textbooks have Ceorls and Peasants as separate classes in 11th century Anglo-Saxon society.

I understood 'Ceorl' as a catch-all term for the equivalent of peasants in Anglo-Saxon society, with varying degrees of freedom.

Very much enjoying my narrative histories at the moment.

Tore Skeie's 'The Wolf Age,' is a well paced narrative with a real focus on the historical figures.

Just finished re-reading James Romm's Ghost on the Throne. A really excellent book that covers the narrative following Alexander's death.

I think I end up in Eumene's camp...
