History is repeating: Amid a trade war w/ Japan in the 80s, politicians villainized Japanese people & companies to further their agendas — even going as far as to smash a Toshiba radio on the Capitol lawn. Unsurprisingly, their actions stoked anti-Japanese & anti-Asian racism.
