The guy who retrieved Cal Raleigh's 61st home run was wearing a shirt that said "DUMP 61 HERE"

...and a shirt underneath that said "DUMP 62 HERE"

Then he got to meet Cal after game!

Mariners fans are feeling the emotions as they are three outs away from their first home postseason win since 2001

Best seats I’ve ever had, for the best game I’ve ever been to. #tridentsup #letsgomariners

One first step people should do to respond to this is start using the “report a speed trap” function in Apple Maps to report where ICE is operating. Make Apple party to the attempt to protect people.

I’ve been out of the Meta game almost a year now, and have been content with Bluesky and mastodon, but am still missing the visual world of Instagram. If you find it, please share.

My family is convinced I could be an announcer, when in reality I’m merely demonstrating a decent (but not outstanding) understanding of the current game.

My personal family baseball achievement is knowing the current state of the game / standings / random stats that I often say out loud something obscure that the announcers say just a short 10-20 seconds later.

We should start a drinking game in which, every time a postseason announcer tries to explain Cal Raleigh's nickname as if it refers to anything but his big ass, you gotta take a shot.

First time I’ve read this. And while my Mariners somehow found the gumption this year to win the division (and drive the Astros back down into oblivion while they were at it), I still feel it, that inspiration you mention.

What a great essay. Thanks for sharing.

I’m so so sorry to hear this, Kent. I hope the drive goes quickly and you’re able to say your goodbyes in person.

Come on baby, let’s do The Twist: How the Fat Boys’ additional lyrics make this 1960 hit the best song of 1988.

I especially liked today’s thread. Bouncing between terrible news items, perfect-pitch joys, and weird baseball stats hits so many positivity-generating points for me.

I hope you pass the bar with flying colors, get to truly turn your powers to good and to bringing good to the underrepresented.

I find these posts exceedingly therapeutic, not just for the news aspect (most of what you report I’ve heard earlier in the day), but mostly for the perspective you bring (including but not at all limited to how much it ofttimes parallels my family life).

Luckily, Sinclair has a helpful database of all their stations, so you can see if they're operating in your area and respond accordingly.

if Jimmy Kimmel's political humor is too hot for you to handle, I'm not sure "snowflake" even cuts it as a term of derision for the level of fragility you've achieved

The following is a statement from the WGA on ABC’s decision to pull ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
WGA Statement on ABC's Decision to Pull ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’
The right to speak our minds and to disagree with each other - to disturb, even - is at the very heart of what it means to be a free people. It is not to be denied. Not by violence, not by the abuse of governmental power, nor by acts of corporate cowardice.
As a Guild, we stand united in opposition to anyone who uses their power and influence to silence the voices of writers, or anyone who speaks in dissent. If free speech applied only to ideas we like, we needn't have bothered to write it into the Constitution. What we have signed on to - painful as it may be at times - is the freeing agreement to disagree.
Shame on those in government who forget this founding truth. As for our employers, our words have made you rich.
Silencing us impoverishes the whole world.
The WGA stands with Jimmy Kimmel and his writers.
