Neil Shapiro, Director, President and CEO of New Jersey PBS, had a total compensation of $837,146 for fiscal year 2024, on about 1/4 the revenue of Cascade PBS. That's nearly $70k/month. www.njpbs.org/wp-content/u...

What would internet access look like if it wasn't controlled by megacorps, but by YOU. Publicly-owned infrastructure isn't new and it doesn't have to stay a dream in Portland. Come out and chat with other people fed up with the status quo: cbbpdx.civicrm.org/civicrm/even...

TIL that the City of Portland has ONE computer lab, at the Charles Jordan Community Center. I kind of want to go check that out. I've been advocating for such things for a while. It *ought* to be open 24 hours. Not sure I'm so crazy about the $5 daily use fee.

The primary basis for any price regulation should be the cost of providing the service, not the depth of the customers wallet. Subsidies to ensure service to those unable to afford the cost should be payed through progressive taxation, to punish society for failing to lift everyone up.

“It is the only network of its kind in the state of Wisconsin. It is the fastest network in the Twin Ports.”

OPB has a $17 million surplus over the last two fiscal years, according to their 990. www.opb.org/pdf/OPB%20FY... Part I, line 19. Please, give it to someone else like Street Roots or KBOO (whose entire budget is less than what OPB pays their CEO).

Proportional representation or multi-member districts get rid of the arbitrary line drawing altogether (at least at finer granularities). Fwiw, I also like a US House with the same population/rep ratio (~33k/rep) as in 1792 (~10k members), fixing Electoral College too. #GonnaNeedABiggerBoat

Community broadband continues to make strides!

Our story here comes out of Syracuse NY where the city has expanded its municipally-owned network Surge Link to 9,200 low-income households, offering $15/month service for qualified households 👏👏👏

Incredible flash flood in Tyrnyauz (1300m asl, Caucasus, RU) yesterday...! 😲😱

This is the main town of the Baksan valley (35 km east of Elbruz, 5642m) which was already hit on July 18, 2000, by a deadly mudflow (8 fatalities, 40 missing, 930 resettled from damaged houses!)

@geoffnorx.bsky.social‬ "clear-eyed reporting" indeed. Can you mention on air your budget surplus in recent years? Can you mention the @OPB CEO's salary?
