📣 Unsurprisingly, the LibDem🔶️ administration in #Richmond voted the motion down.

Why?
❌️ Too complicated to implement.
🗳 Politically challenging this close to an election!

✅️ Time for residents to demand action on #carspreading, and
☑️ vote in more @rtgreenparty.bsky.social councillors.

Looking forward to the debate tonight on this motion, bringing in emissions- and weight-based charges for car parking in Richmond. The road danger that #SUVs bring must be tackled.
Council notes:

· Half of new cars are too wide for typical 1.8m on-street parking bays, and SUVs are often 2m wide,

· Wider, taller, heavier cars cause extra damage to roads and are more likely to kill or injure people walking, wheeling or cycling,

· Serious and fatal road collisions in London cost £1.2 billion in 2024,

· Petrol and diesel SUVs burn 20% more fuel, while electric SUVs require additional resources and critical minerals for batteries.

Council resolves:

· That the Transport and Air Quality Committee Chair requests officers propose parking charges based on vehicle size and emissions for the 2026/27 budget.

A great view of the very well attended demo against Thames Water's crazy scheme to pump water from south west to east London and replace it with treated sewage. #stopthepump

Today we joined @kbgreens.bsky.social members for the Save Our Lands And River protest against Thames Water’s sewage scheme in Teddington.

Wonderful to see such great turnout and the community coming together to fight these reckless and destructive plans that threaten our river and green spaces 💚✊

👏Important new report from @rcphysicians.bsky.social showing just how dangerous air pollution is to our health.

Over 500 people a week dying from dirty air is a public health crisis, and the Government MUST treat it as such. #CleanAirDay

89% of the world's people want to see governments around the world take more action on the climate crisis.

We're the majority. The climate denial of the Tories and Reform is the minority.

So, starting this Earth Day, let's speak up and show governments we want climate action NOW.
