One of the films that has completely overtaken the novel its adapted from. Which is a shame, as the novel is just as fantastic as the film.

Such a fandom-brained thing. Ppl put these expectations on films they're hyped for and project onto it, what it needs to be and like??? Why do so many ppl continue to do this? As hyped as I am for any movie my expectations never get more specific than "I hope I enjoy it."

I made the mistake of peaking in on the subreddit (I know, I know) and...I don't know what I expected, lol. The way fans of stuff absolutely meltdown over reviews is an endless cycle. And like, it's reviewing perfectly in line with the other two?

Spectacle is best when its sincere. Used to be we didn't scoff at stuff being "silly" because...why is earnest expression of imagination "silly?"

None of this praise is particularly deep. "Nicholson scary, Duvall great" lol - but on a big screen, presented well, everything amazing about THE SHINING is amplified 10-fold.

Lloyd as Danny is just so young, the sympathy you feel for the kid is almost aching at times. Ditto Shelley Duvall's all-timer performance here - the happy face she puts on, the hurt she exudes at Jack's abuses, she's marvelous.
Certain shots hit like never before, the score is anxiety inducing.

Also, there is a LOT of pushback against the "let ppl like things" mantra & while I see why it bothers ppl, I think we've all spent so much time online for so long, the endless barrage of negavity for everything all the time has worn ppl down. They just want to exist in joy for a sec, y'know?

Same. I'm sometimes tempted to post a T A K E - but like, why? I often get annoyed when others do it, so why be a hypocrite like that?
I break my own rules sometimes, but actively save my negativity appropriate times like replying to someone elses legitimate criticism, etc.
