I thought I would throw this out there. If anyone wants to ever ask me anything about my experience having a disability, my experinces as someone coming from a mixed cultural and immigrant background, or anything about how that affected things like my education or perspectives; please feel free too

In places I usually monitor more general conservative feelings, one thing I have noticed is that there has been an increased thinking about parties like the American solidarity party which are both social conservative yet economically progressive(and distancing from trump). Anecdotal but interesting

They are using made-up slurs to be gleefully ableist against a disabled girl, using the excuse that it's "just" a joke & "just" mocking AI techbros. But what they are in fact doing is inventing fun new ways to direct derogatory language at a stigmatized group: disabled people who need adaptive tech.

as have many people who wear hearing aids, have had joints replaced, have pacemakers, use insulin pumps, or have artificial limbs.

Autistic people are also often called "robotic."

Someone who makes up a slur for robots and turns it on us is being wildly, viciously ableist.

I'm someone who wears a very high-tech hearing aid in order to understand literally any spoken conversation at all. On top of that, I *still* need to use speech-to-text transcription (which uses machine learning) to caption about 50% of conversations.

I've jokingly referred to myself as a cyborg,

like you said at the begining we have so much more to focus on fighting togethor than just bullying each other based on our perspectives on technology. As the prime minister of norway reminds us podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/p...

it is just the american puritan mindset taking us back to where we feel like we need to impose and force people to work in a certain way, that disabled people are lazy and one which simply seeks to impose heirachies on each other. It is simply system justification theory

They have felt constantily dehumanized simply for feeling like they are able to express art in another way or use different tools for their own form of creativity. The worst part of your arguement is that this is also disconnecting us from the left in other countries and is based in conservatism too
runefar.bsky.social
we should but you are actually part of the issue. You dont realize that for many people what they are emphasizing isnt ai personhood but their own personhood. As someone who is disabled, ai is relevent for my livelihood, my education and is a form of creativity to me. It isnt just a coopting

As much as people worry about a rise in ai misinformation which people should, I actually wouldn't be surprised if also we see a rise in misinformation based specifically on trust of non-ai sources. Scammers often use tools not for efficiency, but for their psychological filtering effect

It also lacks some of the focus on promoting renewables that it could have and instead feels like it focuses more on ignoring how many workers are working with AI. This seems prime to satisfy not workers but the media companies desire and is a sharp contrast from how europeon left is dealing with AI

The issue I worry with some of the way this bill is constructed is that it seems likely it wont actually put more control into the hand of the peolple. Rather people with disabilities will end up being screwed by it because they will be included in the categories being taxed

Here is the thing I also like to remind everyone too. This isn't even in the corporations interests either. The switch to renewables and the stregthening of our grid is a important step towards the future. It is also why we have to talk about coal with people too
Trump’s hatred for renewables means the US is falling behind the rest of the world
As well as embracing ‘beautiful coal’, the president has set about obliterating clean energy projects

I feel like Gaussian splatting needs to come up in discussion more simply because it is a clear example of a way in which techniques can merge multiple perspectives on how to utilize technology towards enhancing not replacing creativity

I agree but i ironically think in america this is often a self fufilling prophecy. Like to me, the way many people have talked about limiting and enforcing upon creativity itself as a tool to fight aganist ai has its own dystopian vibes i admit. That is why knowledge is important

seen propgated by people who cliam to be fearful of government abusing it. I would also recomend ai ethics by mark coeckelbergh for anyone and even just starting with 3blue1brown videos on the topic of neural networks. Also consider that ai devices also include things like the transcription tech

effectively creating the scenario for because the tools exist within the governments disposition already. Regulation is neccsary, but people also need to learn how to actually understand these tools rather than being proud of how ignorant they are about them which is literally a mindset i have

Education is a concern though but ironically one of the biggest issues preventing education on ai to combat exactily what you describe is in fact the fear of AI. In fact, limiting it to be only in the government hands rather than the hands of the people is also what some anti-ai advocates are
runefar.bsky.social
I mean this article is flawed in part though because of one consideration, pretty much every country is in on AI and ironically America is the country most nervous about it not least www.ipsos.com/sites/defaul...
