I fix computers, write scripts, automate things, design things, and 3D print things.

I also play games and enjoy tinkering with various things.
Another Moondrop product! Slightly larger than an old-school discman but I really like how it shows off whatever disc you're listening to!

I also really love their art.

Recently purchased the Moondrop Dawn Pro DAC. It's so tiny, and comes with an also-tiny, clear USB-C cable.

I love when something breaks and it's somehow better than it was before.

Using a dedicated device for music again is interesting. It's a more focused experience, and the Shuffle functions actually shuffle a playlist rather than whatever the hell Spotify/YTM are doing.

Spent all day trying to determine why this support tool I'm writing for my colleagues was not pulling all of the data we needed, only to then realise I was querying the wrong environment.

For several hours.

Ugggghhhhhhhhhhhh.

Mario Party decided it was my turn to swap joycon thumbsticks. I took the opportunity to replace a bunch more.

I'm pretty proud of these, and because I kept the original button membranes this time, they feel great to use!

Oh, Firefox new ToS is completely borked.

They promised to never sell our personal data. "Never have, never will".

It was a promise. But now they removed it.

A bit late to the party, but being able to run LLMs locally at a nice speed is absolutely insane to me. Keen to see where the local AI scene is in a few years' time.

At last, I replaced the shoulder buttons with the proper ones, and modernised the way the system charges with a USB-C board!

I'm keen to continue using this system to go through the GBA games I always wanted to play on real hardware. First stop; Metroid Fusion!

I tried replacing the shoulder buttons on my GBA SP. It didn't quite go to plan, but that's okay.

It's called the Switch 2 because you will have to Switch 2 it to play Nintendo's newest video games.

Update on GBA SP battery life:

With the power-hungry IPS display and flash cart, it lasts a little over four hours.

Not as much as I was expecting, but still an excellent result in my opinion.

Next: replacing the shoulder buttons, because I was a clumsy child.

Another GBA SP post; turns out the battery pack I bought barely lasts an hour.

Instead of relying on possibly decades-old batteries, let's use a modern LiPo cell!

Tonight, as I was reinstalling #Windows11 on my partner's laptop, I made the discovery that the installer does not support a standard touchpad by default.

This is just a mid-range 2023 Lenovo laptop, nothing special about its' touchpad at all.

How on Earth is that not automatically usable?

So there was more to my Switch Lite project..

Installing this modchip was far more finicky than I thought, and required microsoldering which is entirely new to me, but gave it a shot anyway. By some miracle, I succeeded.

Latest project: modified this Switch Lite!

Replaced the shell, buttons, thumbsticks (hall effect!), and added a black border around the screen to match the theme of the device.

It looks so clean and pretty now!

Killing time with #meetyourmaker on my custom #SteamDeck while my partner is napping and recovering. Everyone has been so wonderful throughout this whole ordeal, we are so blessed to have such great people in our lives!

It's alive!

The replacement display for my GBA SP arrived today. It was easy enough to install, needed to also solder a wire to get more convenient access to the display's own menu for brightness/effects.

I've found my childhood GBA SP hiding in the garage. A few purchases from Amazon later, and it has a new shell, battery, and buttons, with a display on the way.

I was not as kind to it as a child as I had thought.

Will post the final result when everything's in place!
