I worked with an author who went to umpteen appointments, unable to say a word. Then the counsellor gave her a journal. She wrote & wrote. Then she couldn't say or read it aloud. The counsellor asked permission to read it. Her voice returned & she is now a psychologist.

May the year 2026 be your year for fulfilled dreams, progress in your goals, joy-filled moments abounding and for all you creatives, (which is everyone in one way or another), find your flow in whatever art form you pursue that can enrich your life.

Apparently, this method of weather forecasting is even reported in the Farmer's Almanac. Go figure. My mother did it each New Year's Eve. I shall do it this year.

Yes, I made a typo in the image. Perfection is unattainable. Done is better than perfect. Sometimes I fix them. Not this time. Too often, we put off what we really want to do because we fear we are not good enough. You are. I am. We are all evolving, and right now, we are enough.

I know I asked something similar recently and received a lovely answer about taking a loaf of bread into a house right after New Year's meant all kinds of good things. My son and I made some of our own traditions around Christmas. These are good things to explore in memoir.

I think we can all be Grinches at some point in our lives, and when others extend the hand of kindness or offer monosyllabic words of comfort, our Grinchness may just melt away. It's worked for me and my crankiness can dissipate in a flash with just a few kind words.

What are your favourite things this time of year? Did anything add up to more joy? What are your most joyful memories? Write about them too to balance out the darker times that befall all of us.

Happy Boxing Day to Canadians and if you don't know what that is if you're not from here, allow me to chuckle with you as you read the image!

Oh, food, joy of card games on a full stomach, laughter, ribbing, cameras snapping pics. 'Tis the season to take a breath, inhale and exhale joy and go tromping through the snow. I'm guessing some of my southern friends like to tromp through sand, listening to waves?

Somewhere in storage, I have Christmas stockings. In my tiny home, I will hang them from the loft edge. Santa will not want to slide down my double-walled, insulated wood stove chimney. He can come in the east door for some molasses cookies baked in the wood stove.

Dr. Sarah Jefferis is speaking my language. How often can I be thankful to my journals, the mighty pen and ink? Every day of my life. That's how often. I'll be running a masterclass for memoir in the new year after the morning pages challenge, January 12-16th.

Funny at first glance. Ponder it a bit more. What do you come up with? I wonder if self-acceptance is the goal. Winnie the Pooh was a great teacher of this also, don't you think?

Oh, the dark days have allowed more sleeping in, and snuggling in bed with good books. I am ready for more activity with the coming of the light but the cocooning opportunities make it slightly easier to be patient.

What are some of the quirks or traditions you have inherited from your forebears? Another thing my mother did was hang a fresh piece of bread over her door so no one would leave hungry and she would open the door at midnight to usher the old year oout and welcome the new year in.

Practicing the opposite of logic is a challenging twist to the brain and ego. Will you take the leap? "When you come to the edge of all you know and are about to jump off, one of two things will happen. You will find a soft place to land or be taught to fly." Edward Teller

I confess. I find these sayings and bits of wisdom and post them here, hoping they mean something to you, and wanting to save them so I can enjoy them again. Also, to remind myself of the wisdom within. Writing a memoir is deeply personal and rewarding. Just saying!
