Have been on this bus an hour since leaving Manchester airport. It's still in Manchester. It's supposed to be an *express* bus to Leeds. According to the timetable it's faster (and certainly cheaper) than the train.
Beginning to have some serious doubts about public transport in UK.
Regretting […]

Het #nerdvote stemadvies is online! Er is een helder advies, maar het is ook weer niet simpel. Er zijn uitstekende kandidaten die het helaas niet gaan halen. Daarom is het advies strategisch. Reacties zeer welkom! https://nerdvote.nl/index.html

Side point on #chatcontrol: When I worked on the law in the European Parliament, in the face of questionably legal, and highly problematic behavior by DG HOME, I prepared a whitepaper on why it was such a terrible Idea.

As it is in the public interest, I have decided to make that white paper […]

Apparently theres a new wave of people joining mastodon, and with them a new wave of self-appointed cops "welcoming" them with long lists of mostly fictitious "rules" they need to follow.

This is a social media platform, with many of different ways to use it. It's fine. Mostly, just try to be […]

🚨 New preprint out🚨 now, why has Antarctica stopped (net) losing mass?
We explore how declining sea ice but mostly increasingly heavy and frequent atmospheric rivers have actually led to a small increase in the mass of #antarctica, in spite of increased […]

Screenshot of figures from the paper: Above a graph showing wiggly lines depicting the cumulative mass budget of Antarctica: a dark line swoops and wiggles downwards before stabilising at the end, colourful dashed lines (depicting snow fall) wiggle along constantly before sloping upwards at the same tme stabilisation occurs.
Below 6 maps of Antarctica in blues and red depicting the mass change in different basins.

I learnt this week that one of our research department secretaries* has been caught up in the round of redundancies in the state that has also affected DMI.

She's looking for other positions, so if you're looking for an efficient, friendly and experienced administrative helper, give me a shout […]

This plot on wikipedia was made by @RARohde based on data published in late 90s and early 00s. Wondering if this has been updated or if there is new understanding on any of these palaeo records?

Maybe @DrEvanGowan has thoughts? Anyone else?

Can anyone point me to literature on static websites in open science/open data? I feel like the advantages are obvious and I'm sure I've read bits here and there, but I'm struggling to find a good reference for a grant application...
