New parents are at high risk for loneliness. 💔

@ruthndwrites.bsky.social has led researchers, practitioners and people with lived experience to write a consensus statement exploring what we know about loneliness, and directions for research, policy and practice: bmjopen.bmj.com/content/bmjo...
Two illustrations of parents with children. Text reads: Perinatal loneliness. New parents are at an increased risk of loneliness, which adversely affects parental and infant health and well-being.

“With the exception of London, deprived settlements in England tend to have fewer, smaller and further-away playgrounds – a serious social justice issue.”

Very much the situation in the parts of the north-east I’m working in, exacerbated by questions of quality and wider environments too.

Our article in @uk.theconversation.com reveals substantial #play inequalities across #England

Paul Brindley & I looked at England’s largest settlements & mapped patterns from +18,000 #playgrounds within them

Serious #socialjustice issues for #children exist!!

theconversation.com/we-mapped-18...
We mapped 18,000 children’s playgrounds and revealed inequality across England
Our maps show some kids have nearer, bigger playgrounds than others.

Recommendations for future research include secondary data analysis; prioritising equality, diversity and inclusion; reconsidering solutions to perinatal loneliness through a social justice lens; co-producing interventions, and rigorous evaluation of existing interventions

We concluded: Despite emerging research into perinatal loneliness, it is hard to determine prevalence due to limited analyses of national survey data.
