Excited to share my new preprint. My work focuses on solitude, but I am not one to advocate for a "solitude theory"; psych has too many theories so one less would be good. So, what I did the past 2 yrs is talking to people, reading work outside of my literature, essentially to shop for a framework 🧵

Updates on my #Vietnam trip: I met with students at Vietnam National University who will help with my project looking at stress biomarkers 😊 While #psychology research in VN is still young, biology is quite research-active. The students will also use this data for their UG theses.

This time I also figured out public transportation to the university, thanks to the new metro line going directly from the city centre. The National University has its own stop. It is great that the city prioritizes building this line first thing to make it convenient for the students to commute.

Ah ok, good to know. I read that to mean they are anti-PCI rather than anti-preprint.

I wasn’t aware Wiley is anti-preprint 🤔 . I published there recently and shared preprint of the manuscript as well as the postprint.

I am at a beach 2 hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City, #Vietnam. I am still jet lagged, have been awake since 2am 🥱 so I thought I will go see the sunrise. It’s 5am now; the locals are already out and about for their morning exercise even on weekends.

Oh what you said speaks to me! Psychosomatic symptoms are my life 😅 so I learned this since college and I agree with you wholeheartedly. What I didn’t know was services I have access to in the UK for free (in US it was all private) so going through Occupational Health helps with those resources too!

Oh yes! That was also my reason for sharing for that paper. Figured it was easier and clearer to show exactly what i ran than describing it in the paper.

It does make switching to R easier! For me syntax also helped with the version 18 that I got for free and never let go 😅 so it froze up often. With syntax I could just write and save, ran it, went take a walk for 15 minutes then came back to see outputs 😆

I am in Vietnam! Here for 9 days to see collaborators. This is me after a 12 hour flight.
While I am here, might as well try getting some R&R and good food. Considering also going for a face massage because my jaw has begun to clench up again 😬. Get massages people! They are painful but worth it.

Grateful I was trained to use spss syntax during phd before switching to R. I preferred it even then because i find writing syntax almost therapeutic. My first code sharing in the 2018 paper I published during my phd was in spss syntax…which noone prolly cared to look really but I am glad I did it.

People are often surprised that SPSS has syntax. It is right in the output, but hard to see and use. Pasting it into a syntax file with each analysis is not hard, but one needs to know how to do it. Then one needs to figure out that there's nothing stopping you from pasting it into a text file.

Q for the #stats crowd, reviewing a paper correlating 2 change scores + interpreting as testing within-person variance that should be robust to time-invariant covariates

Methinks this is wrong and that I've read a paper or blog post somewhere, but I can't for the life of me find it...
