The Nobel Prizes, 5 of 6 having so far gone to US based scientists, are a reminder of why we must stand up for science against this horrid administration. Here are some great Scientist Activists to follow.

It has been an amazing experience to be President of @improvingpsych.org for the past year. There aren't many societies that would engage early career researchers in leadership, but SIPS is very special 🧡✨

Brilliant thread summarising this field - perfect for those in other fields 🙏

🧩Learning to talk & read isn’t just about effort or teaching—it’s shaped by biology, experience & context

🧠Our new review links genetics, neuroscience, psychology & education to show why some children find language or reading easier.

📖 doi.org/10.31234/osf...

🖼️genes→brain→cognition→behaviour 🧵👇
Figure 2 in the review: Levels of analysis from genes and brain systems to cognition and behaviour.
The child both influences and is influenced by parents through genetically shaped interactions, and by the wider school and social environment.
Figure design by Neil Usher.

In some way, it's trivial:

The #brain & the rest of the #body (e.g. the #heart) are coupled.

Yet, we spelled it out

So many policies meant to improve conditions for ECRs end up with a penalty for the ECR. My university makes us do this too, issue open calls for projects designed by a PhD or postdoc candidate even when named in grant 🤦‍♀️
Best case scenario is wasted time for candidate & other ECRs who apply 🤬

it has happened to me twice today at 2 different universities that I (senior postdoc) wrote a grant together with a PI, and the department tries to kick me off the grant. One was awarded (and my name is listed on the grant), and now the department says the team will have to advertise my position.

Next up, @honglab.bsky.social!

Mice show prosocial behaviors and coordinate with each other to achieve mutual rewards. 🐭

Mice also get better at coordinating over time (waiting for the other, nose poking to time their behaviors)! 🐁

Thanks, Jan! Be sure to forward to any promising trainees from your lab, they'd have great training

It’s going to be so much fun to talk new approaches to individual differences in pain, reward & interoception at #EBPS2025

I’ll be introducing single-case dense sampling designs, and what could be a better illustration of their coolness than your new fMRI study, @micahgallen.com 😁

Thrilled to be heading to Almería, Spain for #EBPS2025, where I’ll share the first results from our precision fMRI study on semaglutide and interoception, in a symposium organized by @sirileknes.bsky.social. Looking forward to sun, science, and pharmacology!

And you’re spot on about the figures. I’m embarrassed to show my slides to my preclinical collaborators 😝

Some other fun observations from my first weeks in Madrid:

1) new houses have underfloor COOLING(!)

2) A tinto de verano (wine with lemonade) is the perfect Spanish summer drink & gave me a real Magdalen moment, returning memories from my youth in Andalusia

Super stimulating talk by @anatajadura.bsky.social on all the cool work they’re doing on movement, multisensory integration & illusions in body image

I’m lucky to be visiting her lab for the next few months 🤩

This is an amazing success story. We are happy to have published several papers there - it really has become the top neuroimaging journal within just two years. Kudos to all who had the courage to make it happen!

Launched in 2023, Imaging Neuroscience is now firmly established, with full indexing (PubMed, etc.) and 700 papers to date.

We're very happy to announce that we are able to reduce the APC to $1400.

Huge thanks to all authors, reviewers, editorial team+board, and MIT Press.
