Big changes just hit the U.S. EV market: the federal EV tax credits ($7,500 new / $4,000 used) expired on Sept 30, 2025, and California’s Clean Air Vehicle decal program ended at the same time. Let’s break down what this means.

Mario Guevara faces imminent deportation after being detained by ICE for over 100 days.

His crime? Livestreaming a “No Kings” protest.

If you were outraged about Jimmy Kimmel, you should be more outraged about Guevara.

It’s time to #FreeMario now!

Disney said in a statement that it suspended production on Kimmel's show "to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country." The company said it decided to resume production following "thoughtful conversations with Jimmy."

ICYMI: In Battles Over Public Space news, a majority of voters in San Francisco's Sunset district decided to show Supervisor Joel Engardio the door. The recall was catalyzed by his support for a plan that converted a two-mile stretch of the Great Highway into a public park.
Recallers booted Joel Engardio. Are the Sunset Dunes next?
The battle over the two-mile stretch of the Great Highway that catalyzed Engardio’s axing off the Board of Supervisors has just begun.

Take dangerously unreliable AI that runs on probabilities, not factual reporting, put it on social platforms that amplify sensationalism, not factual reporting, and we're condemned to wander an information wasteland where factual reporting is buried under mountains of toxic soil.

For millions, 9/11 is history. But for many born in the 1900s (like me) it was a visceral, seismic event that cracked time.

It was also a Tuesday morning where thousands of people woke up, began a normal day and didn't make it home. I watch these videos every year to remember the human cost.

Because context matters:

Trump "focuses his ire almost exclusively on large blue cities in blue states, sidestepping political conflict with red Republican governors." @us.theguardian.com 👇

Over the last eight months, a supergroup team led by the landscape designers at OLIN has attempted to envision an entirely different LA — where public space is a priority.

I spoke with the team about its 496-page draft recommendations for how the city's overworked parks system can get there
Confronting LA's park crisis
LA's Park Needs Assessment provides a roadmap — or perhaps a well-shaded, native-planted pathmap? — for a department that's been asked to do more and more with less

It's wild that if Trump (or any president) actually did die in office, millions of people would find out via meme rather than a reliable journalist or news org because these platforms have so degraded access to reporting.

Essential California (Ryan's Version) is part of the L.A. Times' portfolio that won first place for Excellence in Newsletters in this year's Online Journalism Awards.

Feels both gratifying and bittersweet, but it's a testament to the kick-ass squad I got to be part of for a couple years + change.

Loved @nwquah.bsky.social's perfect take on what makes King of the Hill (past + present) so got-dang beautiful.

"...while Hank may often do the right thing, it’s not because the show insists on his worldview being unimpeachable. He’s just someone trying, as best he can, to be a decent person."
Yep.
King of the Hill’s belated 14th season is the best possible outcome for a nostalgia revival.

History is clear that begging drivers to change their behavior is not enough. Cities have to redesign streets in a way that reduces drivers' comfortability with speeding and compels safer behavior.

This article notes further down that there's a project in the works to do that.

The government that has killed more journalists than all other countries combined over the last few years shouldn’t be lecturing a newspaper about anything — let alone an obviously true story.
