That said the Darin Morgan episodes are very, very good. Too bad he left after S3. Jose Chung's From Outer Space is the best episode the show ever did.

You need that normalcy for the pushback to work. S6 doesn't get much better in that regard.

S5 has only a handful of normal monster-of-the-week episodes--Detour, Mind's Eye, The One With The Killer Trees. Everything else is part of the ongoing alien storyline or a Very Special Episode.
