A Haunted House
Art by @illaurastrates.bsky.social
Words by Frankee White

#HorrorSky
A double page spread of an old house a top an unseen hill. The moon is full and high. Stains drip from the house into the void. A man with an axe stands in the window.

The poem reads:

In 1891 I was raised by a family
Made to be proud and strong
With peaked towers and stained glass
A beacon on the high hill
For all to witness —
Until the family died.

One night,
the father took a sharp axe
to his beloved bride/
to his darling daughter/
to his sad-eyed son/
Then hanged himself from my bones in the attic.

My family rotted inside me for days
Before they were found and removed.
I sat empty - alone — for decades
While the weather wore at me
So my outsides matched my insides
Who could truly love a thing like me?
And yet, after all this time
A new family has found me
They call me a "fixer-upper"
I hear them planning all the
hard work they will do
To make me the home I was meant to be:
Mending my aches and pains,
the scars and stains will be
hard to remove
But they want to do the work.

They say at Christmas they will
fill my large halls with laughter,
A sound I am unfamiliar with

That is when I notice
Something in the eye of the father
A gleam I am familiar with And I shudder.
My floorboards creak, my
frame shifts
My windows slam, my doors
rattle open
In the night
The daughter is frightened by
my cries
And her father tells her not to
worry
That he will keep her safe.

I do not believe him.
I have heard these words before.

They Haunt me.

Complete shelf goals. I will always love old EC works.
comicsinthega.bsky.social
My EC Artist's Library books had filled up a shelf but several more volumes are coming so I wasn't sure what to do to find space. But it doesn't seem so bad having some next to my Russ Cochran slipcases.
The top shelf has slipcase editions of Two-Fisted Tales, Frontline Combat, and Weird Fantasy, plus six of the Artist's Library books. The second shelf has the rest of my Artist's Library books.

The Australian Ditmar Award ceremony was last night, and I was honoured to receive the nod for Best Novella. Ghost of the Neon God has now won the Australian double (Aurealis and Ditmar). Congrats to all the winners, and a huge thanks to all my readers.
author with trophy (wearing a 1984 t-short and standing in a cyberpunk hotel lobby) Picture of novella (vivid orange cover), Aurealis trophy (looks kinda like a red glass nautilus), and Ditmar trophy (small gold rocket ship).

It might seem chaotic, but my holiday reading journey does have a plan.
A set of books on a table.
The Cosmic Puppets by Philip K Dick. Men Without women by Haruki Murakami. As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner. The Theban Plays by Sophocles. The Knives by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. Hark!A Vagrant by Kate Beaton.

THE GUNSLINGER ON THE BEACH (1982)
Acrylic on Board - 28" x 18"

The winter months of 1980-81 were tough. My wife and I became parents with the arrival of our daughter in November, and I needn't tell anyone who has children what that means in terms of lifestyle changes...like lack of sleep. 1/4
Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger, stares contemplatively across the sea as waves gently lap the shore. Footprints can be seen in the damp sand leading to where he sits, pistol unstrapped at his hip and bedroll at his side. The sun hangs low but intense, blazing a line of orange across the horizon. Over a low stretch of wispy clouds, the silhouette of an asymmetrical tower rises dream-like in the sky. Odd projections mark the sides while spires of varying height sit atop the peak like chaotic crenelations.

Jeff Smith's BONE had a surprising home during the 1990s in Disney Adventures magazine. It was a banner moment for the comic and readers...but how did it happen?

This is the story of Bone's time in Disney Adventures, with insight from the key players involved.

It's open to non-subscribers.

I want to visually read this like those photos where people jump and the pic looks like they’re flying a broom or being force choked midair.
Matt Murdock is actually sliding down the line and about to tangle up in an epic fail. But this moment / mint / so that’s the one he posts.

Gotten so many brilliant ideas for 5 song dungeons and hacks for Playlist Dungeon already! Which is good, since I plan to start "Revenge of the Mixtape" a Playlist Dungeon Jam in a short bit.
Logo and graphics for Revenge of the Mixtape: A Playlist Dungeon Jam. has weather text and graphics, and a cassete tape slightly unwound in the upper right corner.
