I used to do tournament commentary. I still do, but I used to, too.
The occasional mimosa is a must for me. he/him

I love the name and I love a Crab having the text "emerge from artifact". It just always finds the best card in my deck and kills me, which I would be more tolerant of if the card was less realistically castable. I'd probably be fully on board if it was difficult at all to cast normally.

Finally got around to checking out the updates to the Arena Powered Cube. Had a ton of fun putting up a 7-1 with this Tinker deck, even if Triplicate Titan is kind of a stinker. My one loss was to Crabomination, which I have to say has become among my least favorite cards to play against in Cube.

Got one without Snecko Eye! And with something pretty different from my normal approach, which feels great! This was a busted infinite combo deck, but I was worried about Beat of Death. Power Through plus Second Wind was enough to carry, the trick was I just couldn't ever cast Corruption, lol

This means that they can unban Cori-Steel Cutter, right?

It's time.

The thing about that is that no format is more resistant to this than Cube. Sometimes there are too many Commander cards in the digital Cubes, but you just don't have to do that in your own Cubes. Designing for Cube means stuff like Glittering Massif gets printed, and I'm here for it!

We did it gamers

I wouldn't give either of these cards perfect marks, but I love the shape of a two mana creature that "bottles" a card so you can cast it as long as you control the creature. Gwen Stacy is closer to my ideal implementation, but both of these are rad.

I had been playing Prowess with a Lesson package on the ladder, and this last week it felt like the format has really adapted to Accumulate Wisdom. After spending most of yesterday getting my ass kicked, I hit Mythic with a more aggressive build today.

The topic for next week's podcast:
December 18, 2025 at 8:16 PM
They should keyword Troll of Khazad-dûm's ability as Megamenace.
December 13, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Gwen Stacy. As a long-time lover of Abbot of Keral Keep, this implementation of a cheap creature that bottles cards makes that aspect so much more fun. I'm a big fan of Brynhildr too, but Gwen Stacy delivers more on giving you agency regarding the timing restriction of casting the exiled card.

Then when we talk about sideboard plans, Haliya triggers off of artifacts, which means you can play Soul-Guide Lantern over Rest in Peace. This is great, because you're *rewarded* for playing multiple Lanterns instead of punished for every copy of Rest in Peace you register.
December 9, 2025 at 4:30 PM
So if we want to talk about white decks and what they can do instead of Rest in Peace, Haliya has been a really impressive card. I'm less confident about the rest of the deck, but Haliya is a real engine. It's efficient, generates card advantage, and survives Firebending Lesson. Accept nothing less.

At a baseline, the Izzet decks just function without a graveyard. The prowess Otters still attack, and Accumulate Wisdom is still Anticipate. They're not strong, but they *work*. And if you give them enough time Boomerang Basics will solve the Rest in Peace problem to the extent that it even exists.
December 9, 2025 at 4:30 PM
I've played against a couple white decks in Standard on the ladder this week that boarded in Rest in Peace as an "answer" to Stormchaser's Talent and Accumulate Wisdom. You just can't afford to take a fully reactive stance against cards this powerful, and these matches were easy.

I mostly tune out new 3+ color cards these days, but I've been going deep on some Cube projects and came across what is maybe my new favorite Esper card? All three modes care about creatures and require context, and they even had room for the reminder text on connive!
December 7, 2025 at 5:02 PM
I've been able to play a few games with this, and I think there's something pretty fun here that highlights a lot of different cards that I like. I think something that probably isn't obvious is that this environment highly rewards patience.
December 6, 2025 at 3:54 PM
Going with a range of interpretations here. I think Haunted Dead is most aligned with what you're looking for.
December 3, 2025 at 8:41 PM
Every now and again working on Cubes leads me to thoughts like "Balduvian Trading Post is definitely too powerful for this environment" and I love that shit.
November 24, 2025 at 10:24 PM
And finally I present, "Hatred my Wall of Omens, paying all of my life"
November 24, 2025 at 4:28 PM
This pile with 14 Razor Swines in the sideboard from the same draft is perhaps a better example of what I mean. But they did definitely draft enough hogs at least!
November 24, 2025 at 4:24 PM
Finally got my hands on a Riding the Dilu Horse so I've been working on 30-50 Feral Hogs again and the bots on Cube Cobra basically refuse to put Razor Swines in their decks. I haven't made it fully impossible to win without them, but this deck sure as hell can't close.
November 24, 2025 at 4:20 PM
I've also been thinking that Blazing Rootwalla could be nice to increase the volume of cards that are good to discard, and lowering spell density pushes back on Ascension some. My worry is weaker players might just cast it too often, lol
