Great but horrifying to hear David 😂

The most interesting thing I learned is that he couldn't afford a post production house for rendering and PDV, so he turned the bathroom in his apartment into a render farm by buying computer parts off ebay fighting crypto farmers to get the cards he needed.

Yea you're 100% correct, simply by acting in the film as well he's connected his worth to the product.

My perspective more so is that he's still doing a lot of this without the traditional support structure of the film industry. Distribution, Post, Etc.

There are more interesting aspects of this production that I think are highly commendable when it comes down to film craft I wish were highlighted more.

The fact that Mr Markiplier himself had to ring up every cinema individually just to get it shown with 0 distribution support is worth considering

Something a lot of his contemporaries like Chris Stuckman had that failed, and in his case being WAY more entrenched in film than Markiplier. So I don't think "Big Youtube / Audience" is really enough to convince people to go watch a film.

I believe it's simply word of mouth powering it's success

I have a bit of a different opinion having been following this production as a film nerd.

while yes he's YouTube famous - that isn't actually a good enough marketing asset for film alone. If you check the numbers only 2% of his net audience has actually watched the film.

To all the social media managers emailing me angrily on why that drafts are 2nd.

Video content is arguably the most important thing you can post and it's frustrating how chopped, unc and cooked bsky's standards for this are
