I'm glad I kept this 12V PSU after it died. Replacing the output caps fixed it right up 👌 I also replaced some 100 uF 50V cap and checked the mains caps - fortunately, they were okay, as I don't have any in this size

this made me sad and angry: adding a fan to a closed side of a heatsink - is just fucking stupid 😵💫

why even bid on a 128 bit "9800 XT"?

P.S.
it seems the power consumption is not changing with the brightness, and the schematic confirms it: the lamp brightness is not controlled in any way
P.P.S. maybe an LED conversion at some point? 🤔

Probably the simplest way of getting clean 6V DC from a 2S Li-Ion battery: two 1N4007 diodes in series.
(I got tired of recharging AA batteries every 3-4 hours 😆 and I keep it playing in the background way more than I expected)

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. I had to heat both halves, and now it freaking works. First, I heated the top half - it got rid of artifacts, but WinXP would restart. Then I heated the bottom, and now it boots and passes 3DMark06 🤯

Added heatsinks to the VRM (as per tradition) and put it in my Shuttle SG31. I also replaced 2 x 2GB DDR2 800 6-6-6-18 with Geil 4-4-4-12 (the motherboard doesn't support DDR2 1066, and I don't want to OC on a 250W PSU😅)

Also, here's the underfill under UV, definitely a later generation with the adhesion promoter applied, but the underfill looks pretty much like one from 2008 🤔

and it's funny how RAGE MAXX with Tualatin 1400 is faster than 7500 in 3dmark99😆

Polishing the turd - I added an external power connector, as per tradition, and I'm going to wash and dry the card, put it in my Core 2 Duo Shuttle PC, and see how long it will work 😅

The theory behind this is that for period between 2005 and 2009 TSMC used low temp. underfill for the GPUs (the epoxy looking glue under and around the die). With chips running hot, the low temp. underfill softents and constant thermal cycling damages the balls between the die and gpu substrate

Wtf, I just "fixed" another nvidia card, this shouldn't even be a problem revision of the GPU 🤔😵💫
Same symptoms as with the previous card: no DVI output, artifacts when connected to VGA, works flawlessly after bringing the die up to 100C for a couple of minutes 🫣

I'm running a battery life test and am still amazed by the picture quality and how small it is. I can't even imagine owning something like this in 1996 😲
