One under discussed "advantages" for cars in keeping their all encompassing dominance of roads and transportation, is that private ownership means it feels like you're attacking your citizens when you regulate instead of some fleet owner

Even tried it in CLT a couple times to less than stellar results. (Worked a 1am arrival once with like 6 pax)

Lots of smaller metros could have a successful light rail if implemented well. The question is where can you do it for a cost that makes sense.

I'm not saying this is the deal Dems should take, but... What victory is in their jaws? The only element that seems to be bothering the GOP is ATC staff fucking the skies up.

Probably an improved city.

Zero expertise but I have some recollection that NYC stopped public digitization after 9/11 for "security" concerns. No idea if that's related to this measure.

Oddly enough, both probably represent change in the direction each city needed.

I agree on the EU side however, mutual acceptance *might* allow better EU vehicles to have an opportunity to sale in US. Left Drive Euro small cars would be great to see here. Getting something like a Renault 5 would be great to see.

Recently heard a GOP elected imply that we shouldn't have sidewalks because they bring "undesirable" people.

I've been thinking w should switch corporate taxes to a revenue tax, much lower, simpler, reduces tax spending through esoteric deductions and credits. Makes all business pay something, not just ones turning a profit based on the current accounting rules

CAHSR, despite its many many implementation flaws will provide more value than all of those highways and expansions combined

@brenttoderian.bsky.social is correct, though I'll note my ride home wasn't fun when I was doing it 😂

"Floridians can't behave near railroad tracks" is probably the more accurate headline. Those trains don't come out of nowhere.

Left turn lanes make a lot of sense frequently, but two-way left turn lanes are still grossly overused, they have their place sometimes, but we really need to move away from them as a default.

But safety maintenance and reliability are two areas that airlines do actively try to reduce controllable problems as a core profit generating approach. Airlines are also one of those areas that we know revealed preferences for cheap A-B tickets is the #1 thing for 70-80% off the market.

I generally agree with the thoughts you have here, and definitely find that American corporatism, a bad system that's taken over here, negated some of the benefits and enhanced the negatives. As an airline employee for 20 years, management can be a pita. 1/-

I wouldn't say those are comparable. Publicly owned groceries for food desert areas may make some sense. In competitive areas, especially NYC with its small independent Bodegas, it's weird to target a low % margin Industry with public subsidized competition. Just bad on opportunity costs alone imo.
