1. I didn’t say “ban cars”
2. I didn’t say “ban on-street parking.”
3. Too many cars & on-street parking make traffic congestion worse. Those are facts.
4. Straw man arguments suck.
5. Populist politicians who claim to want to “make traffic better” almost always attack the wrong things, on purpose.

How it should be:

Continuous paths that stay elevated over car entrances are safer and signal driver awareness. They slow cars, reduce conflict, and simplify maintenance.

Prioritizing people, not cars, with smoother, uninterrupted design.

(De)Congestion Pricing has been ridiculously successful on just about every metric it can affect. It's not something very city can realistically implement, but something every large city should start looking at implementing.

An analysis of the first 2 months of New York City's congestion pricing policy shows that road speeds increased and emissions decreased inside and out of the congestion zone, from Cook, Kreidieh, Vasserman, Allcott, Arora, van Sambeek, Tomkins, and Turkel https://www.nber.org/papers/w33584

First transoceanic trip since 2019, felt good to really go somewhere even for a short time. Enjoyed a short stay in Belgrade with friends.

One thing I think a lot of climate and progressive transportation boosters get wrong is they advocate on the basis they want to see. Others with those basis already agree, we need to be able to articulate benefits under other basis, they usually are there to bring more support.

As an MPO we are working towards two things that haven't been standardized in WV yet. A pathway to advance local projects beyond ad hoc proposals, and the ability to administer projects outside of DOH, when DOH can't or won't do so timely. Both items focus on our goal of getting things done.

I usually use social media in consumer mode, interacting with friends and acquaintances and learning in niche/targeted areas. I'm going to try to use bluesky to highlight working for a Metropolitan Planing Organization (MPO) this thread is detailing my history in transportation and what we do now. 🧵

CRW MPO manager here
Attention urban decision-makers:

I’m hoping to see city halls, mayors, city councillors & chief planners create & use accounts here on Bluesky.

Media too.

They were all on Twitter when it was THE place to be & used it effectively, but many have left X.

I think Bluesky is the new place we need.

Using markets to help cities maximize transit use and help drivers by actually achieving lower congestion. All make the daily trip realize costs incurred.

Congestion Pricing
Highway maintenance tolling
Market rate parking pricing
Ban monthly/multi day parking passes (hidden congestion Pricing)
